A lot of times the crew won’t shake hands. They will fist bump or bump elbows. This way they don’t pass along colds and flu or worse. This is common practice on most of the Hal ships and has been for several years. I don’t think he meant to offend you.

It has been a normal practice not to shake hands since I started cruising. Less chance of spreading illnesses. Try bumping elbows. That's customary on ships.

I have read that crew will not shake hands to prevent spreading illnesses. May have been in our HAL information.
