Review summary

The destinations on this cruise were fantastic. Berlin and St. Petersburg were our favorites. We were supposed to go to Helsingborg, Sweden, for our last port, but there were very strong wind gusts and the captain thought it would be dangerous for us to tender in and out, so we went to Copenhagen early. We had a great time there as well, and preferred it to Helsingborg. The food on the cruise was great. The weather was great for us, with temps in the high 60s to low 70s every day, with short rain showers on several days. The ship didn't have a lot of bells and whistles, and was showing its age a bit, but we weren't there for the ship. The staff was great, very attentive and friendly. Overall, it was a great trip.

Our room was on the very back of the ship. We thought the engines might be noisy back there, but they weren't. Also, the balconies on the 4th and 3rd floors were staggered, and we could see into the front halves of their balconies. Ours was completely covered so no one could see into it from above, and we were sheltered from the rain. Also, there was no wind back there, which was nice on a Baltic cruise. And, it was a much larger (deeper) balcony than we've had on any previous cruises. And we could see on both sides of the ship. We loved it back there!

Ship tip

We booked excursions to both Berlin and to St. Petersburg through SPb tours, and we were very happy. We got a discount by booking both excursions through them, and they were less expensive than the HAL tours to start with. Great guides.
