The apparent philosophy for excursions is that only the ship sponsored excursions matter!!!

Enjoy!

Do it. For some reason this cruise was spot on for all aspects of a cruise experience.

Get to the theater early for a good seat.

I love the Crow Nest Lounge , great view and Happy Hour
LRheam
Bring things to do on sea days, not many activities on the ship.
gary66
some common area's for seating are inside and next to the outside edge of ship. It gives you a chance to look over the edge of ship from inside.
carolanddavid
When you get off of the elevators have small signs pointing the direction you need to go.

The ship is starting to show it's age. This was our third time on this ship.
Happicamper
Small ship experience is nice. You can get in your R&R with ease.

This 14 day trip on Zaandam is a very mature crowd, I would guess median age was past mid-60's. As such, much of what is offered onboard is geared towards the older crowd.

Always order your morning tea or coffee with room service to be delivered when you wake up. Always board as early as possible, spend time wandering the ship and getting a sense of where the areas you are interested in are. Read about all ship activities in the guide provided in your stateroom.

Opt for assigned dinner seating or get reservations as early as possible.

Get your food reservations done for the whole time on day 1, so you get the table and your time slot.

If you like food, do not bother. We will not be cruising with Holland America ever again, mainly due to the very poor food.
rdlongworth
When on an Alaska cruise Holland can't control the weather. Our cruise was mostly good weather.
sandrosejs
take extra underwear because the ship doesn't have laundry room.
Indy1
Bring a 3 outlet adapter for cell phone (s) Wear warm clothes by glaciers!
Cruiser23201052
There is NO coin operated laundry, only valet laundryt that you have to pay extra for. The ship info said there was one aboard but we aksed and also looked and could not find one.
