Explore the whole ship. Don't miss going out on the bow, then go up two flights of stairs to access the open forward deck that overlooks the bow.

Organize the notices, invitations, and daily newsletters so that you are not lost in paper and can find what you need. We discarded some of this daily. If you want to save it, put the event notices that are completed away in luggage.

Check out the Explorers Lounge around dinner time for great classical music and homemade chocolates.

Keep warm. Do not eat too much.

The main dining room food isn't worth getting dressed up for unless you like that sort of thing.

Check out the schedule during the day for a lot of excellent classes/presentations. We enjoyed the history and the microsoft photograph classes.

Get out and familiarize yourself with the deck plan. It's easy to get disoriented but there are crew members always available to get directions from.

The Zaandam is 16 years old, though it is well kept, except our stateroom needed to be uplifted.

Make every effort to hear the announcements. Sometimes they are hard to hear, but informative.

Take advantage of the unlimited laundry package.

Don't spend too much time in your cabin. There is too much to do on ship and on shore.

Expect a pampering experience

The small size of the ship allows you to see more of Glacier Bay. However, the motion of the ship was felt by many passengers for the first two sailing days. Bring your medicine if you are prone to motion sickness.

Don't. If you like to eat any time of day, or want choices such as a pizza bar, a deli, or other food options on your itinerary, this is not the ship for you. If you want to be reularly entertained or have activities available sail on a larger ship.

If possible, try to arrive to the boarding dock early so that you are in the 1st group to check-in & board the ship, allowing time to settle in and enjoy lunch!
aronimus
Walk the promenade. Enjoy the New York Times in the Library Turn off data roaming AND Wi-fi on you phone. watch dockings, plan a head as an independent traveler to save on shore excursions.

Try using the Spa, treatments were wonderful!

Free DVD movies to watch at night in your room. Ask the Pursers Desk Attendant for help.

Be careful with independent tours - sometimes they don't meet at the terminal that ship comes in on (Puerto Arenas) and sometimes they don't take you back to ship (Buenos Aires). So plan carefully what you want to do with HAL and what you don't - HAL shore excursions may be late in posting availabil

From what has been stated in the overall review, I think you can guess what kind of tip someone would receive regarding the Zaandam.
