Review summary

First and foremost, cruising along the coast of Alaska was extraordinary with magnificent views throughout the majority of the trip. The scenery was truly magnificent. We had dolphins and whales swimming next to the boat at times which was thoroughly thrilling for all. However, there was nothing extraordinary about the Zaandam. It offered the typical cruise activities on board, average food and average crew and personnel.

Cabin / Stateroom

The room was clean but tired and needed a face lift. Having the veranda was a great plus and being on the port side was a plus, too.

Ship tip

The Zaandam is 16 years old, though it is well kept, except our stateroom needed to be uplifted.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia Did not visit port

Beautiful city. Take the Hop on Hop off bus to see all of the city.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

Beautiful scenery throughout the entire trip!

Ketchikan, Alaska

Cute port. People very friendly. We took the seaplane tour through the Misty Fjords which was glorious. The port shops are there for the cruises and tourists. You will find the same souvenirs in all ports and towns.

Juneau, Alaska

Again, sweet port shops. We went on a small whale watching boat and saw lots of whales. I'd recommend doing a whale watching tour on a smaller boat so you can get a better view

Skagway, Alaska

Another cute port town. The helicopter excursion up to the top of the glacier was beautiful and it was fun to walk on the glacier and hear about it.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
Try to view the glacier in a quiet spot so you can hear the sounds of the glaciers breaking off and crashing into the sea.

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

Go directly to Anchorage or wherever you are going next. No reason to waste time there
