Review summary

This was our first ever cruise, so have no basis of comparison. But we loved the Windstar experience and already talking about taking another European cruise with them. I would highly recommend this itinerary. We had no interest in cruising on large ships and this trip certainly reinforced that opinion.

Not a lot of variety but we knew that going in and that wasn't an important consideration for us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The crew members are fantastic and seem to genuinely enjoy working on the Wind Surf. Extremely helpful and accommodating. Most call you by your first name within a day or two.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Wind Surf is an old ship and of course shows signs of wear in spots. But it's meticulously clean, gives a great feeling of space and light, and has many quiet spaces to relax in. The age of the ship didn't bother us a bit, and didn't seem to bother any other passengers we talked to. Because of its size, it always feels like you're on a ship and we loved that.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We booked a suite which is just two cabins combined into one space. More than enough storage and very nice lighting in the suite and the bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Very quiet, were never bothered by any noise.

Ship tip

Expect great service, plenty of chances to meet other passengers, lots of quiet outdoor space. Almost never a line for anything.

Ports of call

Venice, Italy

Magical city.

Rovinj, Croatia

We did a ship excursion to Motovun and to a local farm for lunch. Very enjoyable tour.

Split, Croatia

5 out of 5
We toured with a local guide - went to the small town of Togir then back to Split. Very interesting and pretty towns.

Dubrovnik, Croatia Did not visit port

Major disappointment of the cruise - weather was so bad that the ship couldn't anchor in Dubrovnik so never saw any of it.

Kotor, Montenegro

5 out of 5
We just walked around Kotor and loved it. Spectacular bay and pretty town. Ship docked right in the town.

Giardini Di Naxos (Taormina), Sicily Did not visit port

Bad weather sent the Wind Surf to dock in Messina instead of Giardini Di Naxos. We took a ship excursion to Taormina and the tour was fine. If we had a longer day there, would probably have booked a private tour.

Sorrento, Italy

4 out of 5
Giving Sorrento 4 stars because even though there was steady rain the entire day, we could see that it's a beautiful place. Took a ship excursion to Pompeii, and this is the only ship tour that we and others were very unhappy with. Very bad time management on part of the tour company. Didn't help that it rained heavily and that Pompeii was mobbed with tourists and school groups.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Did not visit port

All we did here was disembark and take a cab into Rome.

Disembarkation

Easy and quick.
