Review summary

WindStar and the Wind Spirit are the best in overall small-ship cruising in my opinion. The crew of which some were with us on the Wind Surf two years ago, remembered us and we renewed old friendships, they all made this trip very special. We met several couples from all over the world who made the trip relaxing and enjoyable. French Polynesia is truly paradise and I highly recommend that everyone put it on your "bucket list.'

Embarkation

Pre-trip stay at the Intercontinental Hotel was wonderful. It is a beautiful place to begin our adventure. Check-in at the ship was painless with ample time to go across the street to the market to do some souvenir shopping.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food, the wait staff, the atmosphere and their willingness to please was all great and exceeded my expectations.

Candles

5 out of 5

Loved it. Although we had a rain shower that seem to dampen the evening for most folks. We had a very pleasant meal by the Pool Bar which was great.

Amphora

5 out of 5

Wow! the Maitre-d, Prast, ensured that your nightly dinning experience was smooth, relaxing and your food was perfect. The wait-staff each served a small group of tables, so you were never had to summon anyone for a need.

The Veranda

5 out of 5

Breakfast buffet; Lunch buffet with a great salad bar, and made-to order items as well. Surrounded by glass and Air Conditioned. Here the Wait-staff is directed by Prast, so these two meals are great and tasty.

The Lounge

5 out of 5

Coffee and soft drinks are always available and some snacks.A great place in the Air Conditioning for conversation and shows.

Pool Bar

5 out of 5

Always manned with a smiling and gracious bar-keep who would ensured everyone on the aft, open deck, had the liquids to enjoy your visit to this area of the ship.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Having previously traveled with Windstar before, I like having the opportunity to take advantage of all the perks and activities their ships offer, and especially to do it at my pace.

Signature Shop

5 out of 5

Always open while at sea. It has ample stuff that you may have overlooked to pack and ship's souvenirs.

Watersports Platforms

5 out of 5

Has all the right stuff to make a cool dip behind the boat a real treat.

Reception

5 out of 5

This is located in the lobby.

Lobby

5 out of 5

The reception desk was always manned and you are greeted with smiles and a willingness to help, and to pass out sea-sick pills!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Fantastic crew talent show and house band. However, we did daily excursions and did not participate much in the night-life.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Words don't adequately describe how guests are treated on Wind Star ships. The entire crew of the Wind Spirit from the Captain down, seem to go out of their way to make sure that you are treated special and to make your trip joyful and memorable.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is showing her age. But she is well maintained and clean. The Wind Spirit is a smaller version of the Wind Surf and have recently been on that ship. getting around was no problem.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Perfect size with good luggage space and ample room for suitcases and all our souvenirs

Ship tip

Make you reservations for Candles restaurant as soon as you board. The night dinner under the stars is not to be missed.

Ports of call

Papeete, Tahiti

Easy access to the Market. Due to the ship providing transportation to the hotel and traveling with a handicapped son, we did not get the opportunity to see much of that city.

Moorea, French Polynesia

Rained on us most of the day, but the 4-wheeler excursion was very interesting and saw some spectacular sights.

Raiatea, French Polynesia

5 out of 5
Quaint little city. Enjoyed the river cruise and going to a small Motu

Taha'A, Society Islands

Beautiful time on Motu Mahaea. This was a tremendous day of swimming, eating and relaxing.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

5 out of 5
Another beautiful island. We did Jet-ski's around the island which was awesome despite the sea being choppy. Here, our guide was gracious and patient with us because I had my handicapped son on the back of the jet ski and he did not want to go fast in the rough sea.

Huahine, French Polynesia

5 out of 5
Wind Star treated us to another beautiful island. Despite everything being closed on New Year's day, we had a awesome island experience with the excursion around the island. We had a chance to see blue-eyed eels, fish traps, vanilla plantation, and tour a pearl farm and had a gracious guide and host.

Disembarkation

The post-trip stay at the hotel need to be re-thought. Off the ship by 9am; can't check into the hotel until 1pm that afternoon, and check-out by 7pm and the transportation to the airport arrives at 10pm to take you to the airport for an 11:30pm flight. Entirely too much time spent doing nothing but wait.
