Mexico Riviera Cruise by JNJCruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Hawaii

Great cruise, the whale watching excursion at Cabo San Lucas was the best we've ever had; actually saw whales breaching and doing peduncle slaps, it was amazing.  The tours of the cities of Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta were very good; we had never been to these cities before, so the city tours worked out perfect.

One cruise won't do on the westerdam by KellyLeftwich

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Hawaii

The service was exceptional, From dining to cabin state room, everything was at your fingertips, We loved the entertainment, the kind and politeness of crew and staff. The crew of Westerdam really wanted you to have the time of your lives, and we did. We left the ship feeling like it was a home away from home, and we cant wait to return for a future cruise...

Review by KSuser

Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Hawaii

Trip was mostly enjoyable, only real issue was dining. Dining room was good service, food was adequate - but not 5 star. Lido deck was very slow and not the greatest. Seems like the hours didn't match our schedule.

Boat atmosphere was great, I'd say its due for some upgrades in floor covering.

Bars were slow and inconsistent quality on drinks.

Entertainment was OK, but we like comedians and you only had one night.

7 night mexican rivera by pkhunt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

ship was very crowded!  long lines for everything.  service in staterooms was slow, often had to wait 30-60 minutes to get ice.  Casino was crowded all the time.  difficult to find on open machine.  very difficult to get service in the casino (understaffed?).  Lido deck was so crowded it was difficult to find a place to eat.  often had to take our food back to the room just so we could sit and eat.  Smoking is no longer allowed on the balconies.  We asked for open dinning, were assigned an 8pm dinner time.  no flexibility on this once you are on the ship.  Evening shows were not the best.  Only stayed for one.  plus with an 8pm dinnner time the only option we had was the late show.  these were crowded too.  often didnt stay for the show because there was no seating.

Cruise was fine by ralphj111

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Hawaii

The food in the Dining Room was excellent.

The waiters in the Dining Room were exceptional.

The entertainment was subpar.

The stateroom was adequate.

The Lido staff could not keep enough tables clean and ready when guests departed them.

There was insufficient port time available.

Not enough on board activities, particularly for men.

The disembarkment in San Diego was not co-ordinated and took entirely too long.

A Great Trip by gridley52

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

The ship was a nice size and easy to get around. It never seemed to be crowded. The food and entertainment were first rate. We had a mini suite at the front of the ship that was very comfortable. The 2 cabin stewards assigned to our section were always close by and took care of everything quickly.

This was an older crowd, so I wouldn't recommend this cruise for families with small children. Everyone we met was very pleasant to talk to.

A special thanks to our waiters in the dining room, who were from Bali. They made every meal worth remembering.

Holland America also made getting on and off the ship easy and relaxing. Not the chaos that we've experienced on other cruise lines.

Our family Mexican Riviera Cruise! by Cruiser96387553

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

Relaxing on my balcony or by the pool was great. The service by the pool was excellent. The food in the dinning room, buffet, or our 24-7 room service was outstanding. Near the pool is the Dive. Best Burgers and Hot Dogs are served there. We enjoyed the convenience of the layout of the ship. It was so easy to get to anywhere we wanted to go on the ship. The Entertainment kept us busy at night. There was always a show or comedian who was excellent. We also enjoyed the B B King Lounge. We danced the night away with a terrific band. The ports and the excursions were just Amazing! I highly recommend this cruise on the Holland America Westerdam. My whole family had a Amazing Adventure!

I am still waiting for my onboard credit to be deposited to my credit card.  I was promised $150.00 and it was not rec.  So I was told that it would be credited to my credit card.  And it hasn't been   We were    also suppose to get credit for bringing a first time cruiser, with Holland America and we didn't get that either.  That was what promised us.

out to sea by jimandcarol88

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

we love sea day . We enjoyed the crows nest on the cruise that had the puzzles and the games for families to play, many cruises do not have that. The entertainment was wonderful, great singers.

They should of continued ice sculpture carving that they did years ago.

Nice itinerary. Dissapointed in HAL by clarissap

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

The food and service in the Pinnacle Grill were wonderful. The food at the buffet was not good and was poorly presented. The staff in the buffet were very helpful (not their fault the food was bad). The Bain dining room food was hit or miss. Afternoon tea was very nice. We went knowing that the Westerdam was due for a remodel in dry dock soon so we expected that the ship would be showing her age.....but we were shocked to have lots of mold growing in one of the showers in our suites bathroom. There is no excuse for that as there are chemical cleaners that will kill/remove mold. We did not mention it to our room steward as A- you really should not have to point that out and B- we only saw the steward once the entire week. The room was serviced every day but we never saw the steward, no introduction or greeting etc. The itinerary was excellent. The BB King All Stars Band were great. The magician/illusionist spends most of his show trying to sell his Magic kit to the audience. I don't mean just mentioning it or just having a table outside of the showroom to sell from- I mean he spends a good thirty minutes of the act extolling the virtues of it and what is included if you will buy it from him for $125.  This was our first cruise with HAL and I went with the expectations that HAL would be better than Norwegian but not quite as nice as Celebrity. I will now say that HAL beats Norwegian only on cabin size and the food in the "paid" Pinnacle Grill restaurant but that otherwise Norwegian is better in every other way. Celebrity is the way to go if they sail the itinerary you want hands down. If you are wanting to do the Mexican Riviera and your choices are HAL Westerdam or Norwegian Jewel I would go with the Jewel ( I sailed on both ships in the last eight months).

A good time, but seemed very old-school and traditional. by krazykgirl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

Our verandah stateroom was quite comfortable, if somewhat small. The views were amazing!  The service on the ship was also very good.  We had 2 fancy dress evenings and it was nice and fun to dress up and have a fancy dinner, but afterwards we were looking to do some nightclub dancing for adults and there wasn't much of that happening anywhere on the ship.  Also we were always looking for places to find food in the late hours but all of the restaurants and the buffet were closed and room service was swamped.  If you like wine tasting and fancy food and art auctions and going to bed at a decent hour, this ship is more your style. I found the excursions we went on to be somewhat... mediocre.  A good experience overall, but I'd have almost rather not paid for the excursions and spent more time on the beach while in Mexico.

Mexican Riviera on Holland America (Westerdam) by boatboy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

The staffs' genuine friendless creates a memorable cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation moved like clockwork.  Overall the cruise was a good value for the money.  The Adagio classical music performances were impressive and well planned. Bravo!  Alas, the food was less than memorable and the serving size required a magnifying glass to find it.  Thank goodness for the ice cream station.

Great experience during the holiday season. by msnreese

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

Overall,  this was a great cruise, perhaps my best.  The service from staff was excellent and exceeded my experience on other cruise ships.  The food was good, although I have received equal or better on different lines.  Food in specialty restaurants fared much better. There were a variety of entertainment choices. While they lack the larger productions offered on larger ships, their musicians and band , especially the B.B. King Allstars, were exceptional. Shopping was somewhat limited onboard.  Also, there were not as many photo opportunities or bagroubds/sets as I have seen onboard other ships. What set this cruise apart was their attention to detail and their educational opportunities like, live cooking demonstrations from America's Test Kitchen, traditional folkloric dance lessons,  cultural lectures, foreign language lesssons. I also appreciated the fact that the line was sensitive to the religious concerns of its' guests, especially during this season, by including daily Mass and Sabbath services during the week. I could continue on about cleanliness or decor, including poinsettias and amazing gingerbread displays, but I can express that both areas receive high marks. All in all, most passengers should be extremely pleased to sail Holland Westerdam.

Great cruising but Disasterous Excursion by nick29193230

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: Mexico

we had wonderful cruise with Holand America - Westerdam

with few minor issues such exterimly noisy suite of 8057

due to being below lido floor and pool area and heavy

noise produced by vacationers running around as well as

staff removing/ relocating chairs and tables....

but the main issue was that, we had was major tour bus incident

which was the double decker bus 2nd floor side windows was crashed due to

accident was crashed in our face. We were extremely lucky

to escape with few small bruises. however my family and my

10 year old daughter was majorly psychologically effected

And she was crying for half day and that was our weeding anniversary

which trip was booked because of that.

and excursion satff of Westerdam just offered us merely a

new excursion at no charge!!

at the mean time my 10 year having night mare and

we have had few psychology serious.

now we are thinking of holand America for summer Alaskan

cruise, but we are very consern and my family having 2nd

thoughts about it.????????
