Review summary
Overall, this was a great cruise, perhaps my best. The service from staff was excellent and exceeded my experience on other cruise ships. The food was good, although I have received equal or better on different lines. Food in specialty restaurants fared much better. There were a variety of entertainment choices. While they lack the larger productions offered on larger ships, their musicians and band , especially the B.B. King Allstars, were exceptional. Shopping was somewhat limited onboard. Also, there were not as many photo opportunities or bagroubds/sets as I have seen onboard other ships. What set this cruise apart was their attention to detail and their educational opportunities like, live cooking demonstrations from America's Test Kitchen, traditional folkloric dance lessons, cultural lectures, foreign language lesssons. I also appreciated the fact that the line was sensitive to the religious concerns of its' guests, especially during this season, by including daily Mass and Sabbath services during the week. I could continue on about cleanliness or decor, including poinsettias and amazing gingerbread displays, but I can express that both areas receive high marks. All in all, most passengers should be extremely pleased to sail Holland Westerdam.
