Review summary

I like HAL it was a great trip. Despite what I mentioned previously in my survey, I will continue to travel on HAL. The food, staff and concerns of safety were wonderful. Kodiak was a jewel in itself. Alaska is a beautiful state with the friendliest people. HAL is a relaxing cruise line without the bigness, hype and money pinching aspects of some other cruise lines. The whole experience has me dreaming of doing another trans paciif of antlantic crossing again in the future. I hope HAL does not cut back services like Royal Caribbean is doing. I understand the pandemic stuff but ok, if that is the case; why is RCCL bragging about new ships and cutting passengers services at the same time? A pointed question that they do not want to answer. I hope HAL avoids this path.

Onboard Activities

Thermal tubs and pool were relaxing. The lectures were interesting as well as the nautical scenery

Entertainment

Piano bar was weak, they did not know many piano classics, shows were weak, rolling stone band only played the same music over and over again, boring The selective on who they liked in the audience. The jazz trio on deck three were great and interesting. They interacted with listeners. I give them bravo kudos on their performances. Interesting too, they explained the meanings and histories of each piece they played. I looked forward to their daily concerts too.

Service and Staff

The entire hotel staff very friendly, Noor and Nancy stateroom steward and stewardess, Since the shows and music onboard were not great, the bar staff on lido bar next to pool great, the crows nest great all throughout the vessel great.

The bed, service and air-conditioning were perfect. I am glad the vessel granted my request of extra pillows, cool AC and quietness.

Ship tip

If you like an easy vessel to get around in this ship is it. The Westerdam is a smaller ship, much better than those oversized mega ship. The traditions like Mass, tea times are great too.

Besides the space needle, Seattle is a dump, much of the scarred destruction of the riots of 2020 still prevails. Pike place market is a tourist trap rip off. Our tour guide and coach operator were excellent though. I would not feel safe staying in Seattle anymore. Back in 1996 it was a cool city now it is garbage.
