Review summary

To me this is a don't miss cruise. You've got to go see these places if you love nature. Do your research and have an excursion or plan for each port AND a back up if something cancels the first one. Love, love, love Volendam and the crew. Very sad to disembark.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Dining Room dinner only for us, exceptional. Lido for all other meals except occasional Dive In for the best burgers!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We used the pool a bit (a tad cool out) and the gym. On sea days, the library, games and puzzles.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Awesome, we had a great variety of magicians, musicians (band and solo), instrumentalists and comedians. I think we only missed 2 nights due to other commitments.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
From cabin stewards to food servers/staff, all were amazing. Many of them even learn your name.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
yes to these questions but smoking in the casino extends well beyond the casino. Everyone in the puzzle room complained every day about how much smoke made it down the hall and into that room. There has to be a way to contain that smoke in the casino, put on doors or something. Also hall flowers are gorgeous but for those of us with scent issues, I could not sit in the ocean bar until the lily flowers died (a week plus) and were replaced with something that didn't have a scent.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Very good, nit picking but I prefer a shower. TV in office, couch area not just to be viewed if in bed. More electrical outlets are needed. Plenty of storage. Bedding is super comfortable. Don't need all the decorative pillows; they just take up space and we have to move or store to get out of the way. LOVED our balcony but furniture is very old on the balconies, hopefully will be updated in next dry dock. The cabin carpets are all going to be replaced so hope they do the balcony furniture also.

Ship tip

Small ship but I would sail on this every single time if I could. Caters more to adults than kids which I and most guests love.

Ports of call

Sydney, Nova Scotia

Very pretty but small town, need to get a tour taking you out into nature.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland

Hiked the gorge, hike was awesome, gorge is really just views of the area.

Red Bay, Newfoundland

Qaqortoq, Greenland

Great town to walk around, very scenic.

Cruise Prins Christian Sund, Greenland

5 out of 5
One of the best days of the cruise, was on deck for about 12 hours straight.

Isafjordur, Iceland

3 out of 5
my excursion to see birds was cancelled due to weather so might have loved this otherwise. Town wasn't very exciting to me; I should have found another excursion.

Akureyri, Iceland

5 out of 5
One of the best stops, did a tour of highlights around the area.

Seydisfjordur, Iceland

5 out of 5
Hiking tour to see waterfalls. Lots of walking but amazing views.

Djupivogur, Iceland

4 out of 5
Bus trip to glacier, its far and no other nature stops but a bird preserve that didn't have birds this time of year. Would love to have stopped along the fjords.

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
Excursion of the Golden Circle, excellent. Wish we had two days, there is too much to see here. Would rather cut out a smaller port and have two days here.

Grundarfjordur, Iceland

5 out of 5
Bus tour of peninsula, excellent.

Nanortalik, Greenland

5 out of 5
Small boat tour up close to icebergs, amazing. Town is very small but welcoming.

St. Anthony, Newfoundland

5 out of 5
Awesome hike on own to Fisher's Point. Did not do stairs but views were terrific anyway.

St. John's, Newfoundland

5 out of 5
Hiked along fjord to top of point. Truly wonderful experience.

St. Pierre & Miquelon

3 out of 5
We saw the start of a major sail boat race but otherwise could have passed on this port.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

4 out of 5
Bus tour of Peggy's Cove, and 2 other towns. Would have liked more time in Peggy's Cove, 45 minutes is not enough time to see art gallery's and all the nature there. Mahome Bay could be cut out entirely, nice town but we had way too much time there and not enough in the other areas. Most folks were just sitting and waiting to leave.

Bar Harbor, Maine

4 out of 5
Didn't have great weather but really enjoyed walking through town. Would love more time here so you can really see Acadia.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Self assist, we were one of the first off the ship. Only issue was that there were no taxis waiting for us, we expected a long line of them.
