Review summary

Really loved seeing all these beautiful and so very different cities along this trip. We really liked this selection of ports more than any other cruise line doing the same area. Loved all the ports very much. And especially enjoyed the size of the ship Volendam. Perfect for seniors. No crowds. Few kids. Not loud and noisy. No long lines anywhere.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Very pleased with main dining room. Pinnacle grill was cozy and romantic. Buffet was varied with lots of choices.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pool is very small. Even though there were very few kids on board they splashed enough for us not to enjoy the pool. Hot tub was nice.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Stage shows were nice, but they were very short, only 45 minutes. Would have liked more lively shows like musicals - there was no live stage show on first night - that bothered us

Children's Programs

No children - we are retired

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All employees were very friendly

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was clean and well maintained, but it is an older ship

Cabin / Stateroom

Beds very comfortable

Ship tip

Great for retired people - not many kids, no crowds

Ports of call

Montreal, Quebec

We added two extra days to the front end of cruise to enjoy Montreal

Quebec City, Quebec

We really liked Montreal‘s old town. Especially the upper part. Best part of the cruise. Would have loved to stay there a bit longer into evening.

Cruise Gulf Of St. Lawrence

4 out of 5
Since this was the only cruising day of the trip it was nice to relax a bit between visiting so many ports. We enjoyed walking around the promenade deck to get a feel for the vast ocean around us

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

We walked all around town. Enjoyed the long boardwalk. Very scenic.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

Rainy day. We walked through town on the rain. Not very exciting.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Bar Harbor, Maine

Very rainy day. We walked all around town. Lots log little tourist shops. Would have loved to go into national park but it was too rainy.

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
We stayed a couple of extra days after we left the ship. Had a hotel downtown. Walked freedom trail. Boston commons park. Saw a lot. Very nice. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Disembarkation

Really easy to just walk off ship. Very convenient.
