Review summary

My husband and I just got back from our first cruise, a cruise to Alaska on the Vision of the Seas. The crew was so friendly, attentive and bent over backwards to make us happy. Royal Caribbean thought of everything, including the travel vouchers to and from the ship; something we did not think of. We really enjoyed the excursions to the Mendenhall glacier, the Mt. Roberts Tramway and Skagway's White Pass railway to Canada (although it would have been nice to have beverages available at Frasier and the glacier in Juneau). We will definitely go on another cruise with Royal Caribbean.

Ship experiences

Entertainment

We were able to see 3 shows and they were great! There were 2 shows we did not see, because the Masquerade room was packed with both dinner seatings at the same time. Had they split up the seatings, we would have gone. While the ship was cruising, there could have been more activities scheduled.

Service and Staff

Our waiter and waiter assistant were very pleasant. It was kind of hard to understand our waiter, since he was from Hungary, but I was able to communicate with him and he took our teasing in stride. What a great guy!

Ports of call

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
The people of Icy Strait were exceptional! They were so glad to see us and we were glad to learn about their culture. We went on the Wild bush exploration excursion and were not disappointed. We did not see any bear, but saw Killer Whales off the shore while riding on the bus. The hike was nice and the scenery just beautiful. I feel fortunate to be one of the few to see this island. If a person wants to go shopping....not the place for you.
Don't Miss: If you want to learn about the culture, take the Bush exploration excursion.

Juneau, Alaska

The Mendenhall glacier was a "must see". Beautiful! But Juneau had way too many jewelery stores and was too commercial.
Don't Miss: Mendenhall Glacier

Skagway, Alaska

The White Pass Railway was great. We saw a lot of the country side. Frasier was a big dud...nothing there. It would have been nice to have a hot cup of coffee. Liarsville was cute, although we did not pan for gold.
Don't Miss: White Pass Railroad

Victoria, British Columbia

We really did not have enough time to see everything. It was very commercial and expensive. Beautiful place.

Pros: The crew

Cons: Not enough time to see everything in Victoria, BC
