Great Cruise by papacrews

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

We loved the smaller Viking ship. The Cruise Director was wonderful. Excellent food in all restaurants and eateries. My wife especially liked the free laundry facility on each deck.

Absolutely wonderful! From the ship itself to the crew to the food to the lectures to the excursions-everthing was wonderful. Viking earns their number one rating! They take care of the little things as well as the big ones.

Norway in Winter by trudyh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

This was our first Viking ocean cruise. We did see the northern lights in both Alta and Tromso but due to the storm of the century (winter hurricane in Norway) we were kept in port extra days in Alta and Tromso and eventually taken by charter flight from Tromso to London. Viking was wonderful and worked tirelessly to try to move us as comfortably as possible. Given the unprecedented circumstances they did an outstanding job. The cruise itself given all that, was lovely and we have booked two more Viking ocean cruises.

Great time of year to go. Crowds were at a minimum. by DebbieKasper

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

Going in December was great. The crowds were at a minimum and the weather was not that cold. We got to get an up close and personal visit to most of the sites.

The ship was exactly what we wanted! Excursions are demanding even if they say moderate! Lots of walking, stairs, uneven surfaces! by paula79677925

Terrific by slbowen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

Viking sets oioothe standard for every key area from embarkation to debarkation. Staff, cleanliness, leader involvement - - all Outstanding. Particularly noteworthy was seeing the Ship’s General Manager and Officers routinely with their “ troops “. There every day to provide well wishes when we left fore excursions, and there again to welcome everyone back aboard., Too many superlatives to list. Best cruise line we have ever sailed in last 20 plus years.

Beautiful Ship and a Superb Travel Experience! by MarinTraveller

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

We found almost everything about this cruise on Viking Venus to be exemplary. The couple of disappointments were handled with concern and follow-up that was very impressive. Viking is not inexpensive (!) but our experience fulfilled all of our expectations and then some. We will definitely sail again on a Viking Ocean Cruise in the future.

Viking Venus - Search for Northern Lights (Feb 24 - Mar 8, 2023) by gncruisers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

Travelers and their travel agents should know the Viking rules about Air Plus. Disappointing to learn as we went through processes. Avoid flying United domestic and Lufthansa domestic- too chaotic. Cruise overall a big disappointment due to cancelling the heart of the cruise at Alta and Tromso; substitute ports of call did not measure up. Work with TA ahead of trip to nail down reservations for specialty restaurants. Our advice is to avoid this cruise in winter - the weather is just too much of a factor, as evidenced by the number of sail dates for this cruise having serious problems.

The cruise was to Norway but not the one I originally booked by WilliamJames

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus

The ship was nice, the crew was great, the food was very good. However, with all the port changes and terrible communications from Viking of I had known this cruise was going to to make those changes I would have either rescheduled or canceled the cruise! We spend a LOT of money on this cruise and didn't get good value for it. One comment about the 2 day delay, while weather is never assured on any cruise, the magnitude of this storm (which we heard from the crew made many passengers sick), was known to the captain and Viking management many days in advance. Weather predictions are well established a week or more before a storm actually hits. This ship should have changed the itinerary early, gone to other ports, like Amsterdam or London and spent 2 days there. Their choice impacted both cruises in a negative way. Poor decisions on managements part.

Enjoyable cruise with some great ports and Northern Lights! Food and entertainment left a little to be desired, but we are glad we took this cruise.

Not worth the $ by dhourigan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Viking Venus / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

I know Viking can't help what Mother Nature does, however, we paid a lot of money for not much. We missed Amsterdam, Narvik, and London. We should be reimbursed for London since that was an add on, however, I think we should be given something in return for 1/2 of a trip. This was our third Viking cruise and we would be hard pressed to try another one even though we loved the ship etc.

Terrific trip by sorton

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The cruise was wonderful. The information we were given did not make it clear that Athens and Rome are not actually where the ship is docked. Having been to both Athens and Rome on prior trips, we understood that, but some of our passengers were a little confused that the ports were a good distance from the cities. Most of our ports were amazing. We were disappointed in Messina. There was not much to see in the city. I suppose the optional trips were better than the city tour. Overall, the itinerary was good. (Too bad the day at sea was so turbulent!)

We lucked out on the weather. Over the week, we encountered two half-day bouts of rain. We even saw the sun several days during the cruise. Beautiful ship - Viking Venus!!

It was an enjoyable cruise by TracyRude

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Viking Venus / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This cruise had port changes due to the war in Ukraine. The time spent in the ports we did visit was often very short. Our original itinerary was very generous in generally giving two days to visit most ports by overnighting there. I would have loved to spend more free time to enjoy local restaurants for dinner, etc. and that opportunity was not afforded on this long cruise.

British Isles by gustafson89

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Venus / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

Very disappointed in this cruise. Included excursions were boring, lack of staff to clean tables, get beverages and remove dirty plates. Stare room stewards were inexperienced and didn't provide items we requested (like an extra towel). They also left cleaning products on the bathroom counter and also left our cabin door propped open while they were cleaning the Veranda 3 doors down. Very poor service.
