Review summary

Beautiful ports. Four sea days. Need better communication to prepare for Tasman Sea experience.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Very good

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Need more vegan and vegetarian

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Thermal spa is terrific

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Viking needs to update shows and also vary. For those who go on several cruises a year——we are tired of the Abba and Beatles songbook shows and cabaret acts.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Great cabin steward. Armando was the best server ever with Camilla as our wine steward.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Very comfortable and clean

Ship tip

Be aware of the notoriously choppy Tasman Sea crossing

Loved going into city on our own after our excursion. Shuttle bus was excellent

Port Chalmers (Dunedin), New Zealand

4 out of 5
Viking did not pick up where the printed location indicated. Made for an exciting return to the ship that we barely made.

CRUISE FOVEAUX STRAIT

3 out of 5
Always oretty

Cruise Tasman Sea

3 out of 5
Crazy choppy but is normal. Only one of the four travelers in my group was not affected. Passengers should be forewarned.

Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

The wine tasting portion of our paid excursion was a bust. Otherwise excellent. The host at the vineyard (which was beautiful) was rude and did not offer pours to the international standard of 2-3 oz per taste. He made one bottle last through 35 tastes with at least half a glass left over. We got either one large sip or two small ones. INAPPROPRIATE!!

CRUISE BASS STRAIT

Melbourne, Australia

Great city overview and shuttle into city

Cruise Australia Coast

Disembarkation

We waiting almost an hour past our advertised time to be allowed off ship. Since we did Viking post-extension in Sydney getting off on our own wasn’t viable.

We sail the Tasman Sea 1st through the 3rd January, 2023. We were on Viking Mars. We got lucky as the sea wasn't too bad. I was preparing for the worst as I heard how rough it is sometimes. Liked your review!

Yup, the Tasman can be rough! We galloped through there a few years ago. I met a man who had been stationed there during war and he told me it was always that way!

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. I’m surprised no one warned you about crossing the Tasman Sea. It is well known to be very rough.
