Viking is subpar to it's top competitor Celebrity.

Review summary

Overall, I would rate my experience on the Viking Neptune as just okay. I have only been on one cruise before, the Celebrity Edge. I felt the Viking cruise was considerably pricier and offered quite a bit less than the Edge. I can honestly say I probably would never go on a Viking Cruise again.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Good, no issues.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Mediocre at best when compared to Celebrity Edge. Less choices of food, specialty restaurants, and dining areas.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Utilized the very small pool and had a massage.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Other than the guitarist / singer I felt that entertainment was not very good. Nothing spectacular or entertaining.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
This is one of the shining aspects on the Viking Cruise, but I have sailed on the Celebrity Edge, and I must say Celebrity was better.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Everything was clean and well maintained. I know the Viking Neptune is a smaller ship, but I must say I was disappointed in the layout of dining and entertainment.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin was great, but it should be for the amount of money we paid.

Ship tip

This cruise isn't designed for younger people nor are there venues onboard that appeal to them.

Ports of call

Venice, Italy

4 out of 5
Love Venice and stayed at a hotel we stayed in some years back. We arranged a private boat tour of Venice.

Koper, Slovenia

2 out of 5
Nothing special here.

Zadar, Croatia

2 out of 5
It was okay.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

2 out of 5
Okay again.

Kotor, Montenegro

2 out of 5
Not much too do.

Corfu, Greece

2 out of 5

Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

4 out of 5
The best part of our cruise.

Santorini, Greece

1 out of 5
Super Windy so Viking cancelled our excursion and sailed early to Athens.

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

3 out of 5
Love Athens but there must have been another 12 Cruise Ships there when we docked. Lots and lots of people making it not very much fun with all the crowds.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Thanks to our Travel Agent, Richie we arranged a private pickup from the port to the airport. Excellent and reasonably priced.

That is what is great about cruising. To find a cruise line that fits how you want to cruise. My first cruise was on a ship of 2000 guests and then I found Viking with less 930 guest. For us that works. Cant imagine to be on the Edge with 3000 guest. Thanks for your review and happy sailings.
