Be prepared to encounter unapologetic guest service staff who pointing fingers to someone else externally and /or internally and is well trained to sweep the dirt under the carpet.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
1. Missing data from myvikingjourney.com: passport data and credit card data, 2. Wrong key cards were issued, 3. Boarded cruise under wrong names/key cards without detection, 4. An checked luggage properly labeled was missing/late delivered, 5. Customer service staff brushed off the claims by blaming human error, error made by the staff at port, and house keeping.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Unauthentic ethnic food, some meat dishes are unbearably salty.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Nordic Snow Room and Steam Room are great experience not to be missed.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Guest speaker reads off presentation material, and her PPT is not uninteresting. It would be better to show a professionally made documentary about the Port than having a guest speaker.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Service staff in general is very courteous and friendly. Customer service staff is rather unprofessional, in terms the knowledge of the stateroom size, attitude toward mistakes/errors made by Viking.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Very clean and well maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Cabin has been kept very clean.
Room is a little tight.
Mattresses are a little sagging and so uncomfortable causing backaches in about 10 days, which had to be replaced by room stewards. This really should not happen given this vessel is new.
Ship tip
Don't expect much from included excursions offered by Viking.
Puerto Limon is an authentic local town not dressed up for tourists.
The included excursion of boating in a local canal is so so and the shop in the excursion location is a tourist trap.
The neighborhood of Coxen Hole is very authentic and interesting for those who are interesting to know about local culture. But too many tour hasslers staged outside of the port gate.
The port is surrounded by uninteresting high priced shops.
The included excursion to the garden is not very interesting.
The included tour takes people to an unimpressive Mayan ruin, and drive thru old Belize City without stopping. The Mayan site tour guide also sells souvenir and refers guests to his aunt's souvenir stand.
The port is Too touristy with massive shops.
The included excursion driving thru the city is so so, but the Mayan dance is interesting.
The submarine excursion is interesting, except the water is not very clear.
Painless. If luggage from the same room can be placed next to each other will be a big improvement. Looking for luggage at the the port takes a lot of time .
Thanks for all your comments. A bad mattress is just plain bad. Glad they replaced it for you! We are looking at your ship from the Rotterdam right now. It is a drag about not being able to get off ship due to protests in Panama Canal. But always something going on in the world. I agree with your canal experience in Costa Rica. It was a little slow. Going to the canal after 11 am means less active animal activity. But the walk to the canal boat made it worthwhile with the huge trees and lovely plants.
I was on this ship in January and my experience was 180 degrees different. Sorry your experience was not what you expected. Hope your next cruise is better.
