We had done 7 prior cruises with Viking. We knew what to expect. That is why we were disappointed with Viking Homelands. We had high expectations, but we were highly diappointed, not because of the ship or service, but because we paid high dollars for a 14 days cruise that will take us to magnificent places, but they decided to change them for very low quality places, and the included tours were below our expectations.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
fast and easy
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
food was varied, in abundance, and easy to accomodate our food sensitivities and taste
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
other than the pool and the spa area there is not much to do onboard if you are an active person
Entertainment
3 out of 5
we participated in couple of the music events. Nothing to great. The musicians did well
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
this is the one thing Viking did not disappoint. the service was exceptional.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
always clean, and nothing was out of place
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
average size, most of the cabins are the same size, the difference in price is where they are located and how far in advance you can book your shore excursions. They were always kept clean, and provided all the amenities you needed.
Ship tip
Like I said before, the itinerary was very disappointing, the included shore excursions were poor to say the least. The ship in itself was very good
we did the Grieg's recital, an optional tour, this was very good.
we walked the city on our own, which is very easy to do since the ship is docked by the old town.
TIME SPEND HERE WAS WAY TOO SHORT. The ship arrived at 7:00 and left at 1:00pm. bearly we had time to book on our own a tour to the fjords and to see Pulpit Rock from the water. The included tour was a walk around the pier and to see the Oil Museum, not what we expected.
a day and 1/2 in Oslo as a replacement for 2 days in St. Petersburg?! are you kiding me?! What a disappointment, we did walked the old town on our own, and did the tour of Highlights and Vigeland park. Not comparison with St. Petersburg.
the included tour here was a walk along the harbor to see the Little Mermaid. Seriously?! The only reasy we did 2 optional tours was because otherwise we would have seen nothing of the city.
Had to pay a lot per person to have a decent tour of such a huge city. the included was a train ride and they dropped you in Berlin to see what you can. Another disappoinment that you have to spend so much money to see something worth while
I am sorry that you were dissapointed in your revised itinerary. Viking had cancelled St Petersburg and Tallinni a year ago. Couldn't you have cancelled then? I thought Viking was letting their guest do that. Thanks for your review.
