Our cabin had a veranda. We enjoyed it on the days when we were back to the room before nighttime collapsed the day, and when the weather was warm and sunny. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom adequate. No in room coffee- but, you don't have to go far to get your morning cup!

The Viking Embla was a newer, modern ship. We loved he idea of the veranda, but we didn't really use it much because of the locks and cool weather. I feel that a French Balcony would have been fine also because you still have the large sliding glass doors which open to the outside.

The staff were fabulous! The coffee bars were wonderful! Those wasabi covered nuts were delicious! I loved the way someone greeted you each time you returned from a tour. My tip...just enjoy!

Pack light. We were in shorts and shirts most of the trip. There is absolutely NO reason to bring dress clothes. Twice I dug them out because I lugged a large suitcase to Europe. But next time a carry on sized suitcase is all I need. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion is provided (and hair dryer).

Don’t get a balcony on the second floor because you will wake up in port parked next to another ship and be attached to another boats state room and not be able to use your balcony for days.
