First time cruising and what... by carl2385

Sail date: /
Ship: Ventura

First time cruising and what an experience. Staff were first class, very helpful. Sea days were slightly boring but was nice to just chill out in the balcony and watch the world go buy! Would definitely do it again but would book more excursions and take advantage of the stops. The cabins were bigger than expected. Cleanliness of the shop was spotless. Great to see them maintaining the ship whilst at dock.

Just ok by gorlin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ventura / Destination: Canaries

This was our first cruise and not sure if we’d go again. If we did it wouldn’t be with P&O. They overcharged us on our bill when we got back and the ship was a bit too big , too hard to find our way around

Love this ship - my favourite places are the Glass House - I highly recommend the fish and and and we love spending the evenings in metropolis - great music and a great venue to watch the sea at night.

I agree with all that... by yorghan1

Sail date: /
Ship: Ventura

I agree with all that seadogrob has said and now I'll add my bit. Embarkcation was and disembarkation was excellent. Taking most of your cases early was a good idea and then taking you down deck by deck was also better than on other cruise lines. However informing you to use your original luggage labels the night before you disembark was a bit of a pain as we had removed them early in the cruise as we thought we would be issued new ones as other lines do, so we had to go to reception to get more. Now for some negatives. We have done 20+ cruises and the food in the buffet was awful, especially breakfast. Eggs were often cold and hard, sausages we frequently had to scrape off of the dishes and they were burnt along the bottom. Rolls one day were hard around the edges as if they had been left out all night. Very little variety i.e fish, pancakes ,savories were often not available, and we weren't late risers. Lunch wasn't much better and the only cold drinks available is water. Other lines have much better and visible options. Maybe we've been spoilt by Royal Carribbean and Princess. Dinner in the restaurant was better than those cruise lines though , with 4 or 5 courses all well cooked and good waiters which is more than can be said for the lunchtime waiters in the saffron where we went a couple of times. We found them to be very standoffish and didn't seem bothered to serve you or not. Now for the worst part. The bloody ship leaks😬 My daughter and husband were on deck 15 forward and after the first night of bad weather the passage outside their cabin was soaking. This went on for several days in spite of staff trying to dry it. They were given a couple of bottles of wine and a free meal with wine in the epicurean as compensation. We found out later that more forward cabins and on lower decks had been effected and it is apparently caused by water splashing out of the pools in bad weather and finding its way through the floors. Apparently the ship is going into Hamburg in March for a refit and to cure the problem. One of the waiters told us he had to move cabins 6 times til they cured it on the part he was in. Anyway on a different topic the daytime entertainment is poor if there is bad weather because there is only shuffleboard and quoits outside and they don't arrange any extra quizzes if you can't get on deck so it can be a bit boring. The entertainment staff apart from that, are excellent. They were always on time and efficient at the outdoor deck games, the quizzes and sail away. The top member Wez is leaving but no-one seems to know how or why. The shows of a evening were superb and catered for every taste. Sorry this review has been so long but I wanted to express my views although others may disagree with my observations

More negatives than positives by yorghan1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ventura / Destination: Europe

The buffet food made the cruise very disappointing and with the layout of the ship, and the boredom on sea days when there is inclement weather, means I won't go on Ventura or probably P & O again. RCI or Princess in future.

This was our second cruise... by Garry356

Sail date: /
Ship: Ventura

This was our second cruise with P&O and the staff and ship were first class. I would agree with other comments that this cruise was aimed at a more senior customer. The food was varied and very good as were the waiters. The accommodation was good but in need of a refurbish and considering we had a penthouse suite that was surprising. As was the extra cost of WiFi which in most hotels is now free? The separate dining arrangements for breakfast was outstanding and I congratulate the work of the staff. It never fails to surprise me that passenger's fail to follow the instructions of the crew. From life boat drill to disembarcation. If they are told to go right they go left and as to getting back to the ship on time!!! We only did 3 excursions which were well organised but for the fact some passengers decided to change coaches and cause a 45 minute delay. However none of this puts me off cruising with P&O

Wonderful Meditteranean cruise by kevin590123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ventura / Destination: Europe

The very wet corridors and average food in the day restaurants aside, we had a great cruise. The weather a couple of nights was a bit rough but that is just something that could happen unplanned. Overall we enjoyed our cruise and would probably do it again.

Good shop but found that... by seadogrob

Sail date: /
Ship: Ventura

Good shop but found that there were a lot of older and disabled passengers (75%) and it felt a bit like an older persons holiday. The daily meetings / activities were all geared towards older people e.g. WW2 talks, how to deal with back issues, wrinkle treatments, shuffle board etc. Excursions were very good. Overall something to come back to in ten years or more when we retire.

Felt like a Pensioner’s Cruise! by seadogrob

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ventura / Destination: Canaries

This cruise was clearly targeted at older and disabled people. We spent quite a bit of time on our own balcony when not in port as there was not much of interest to do in sea days. Evening entertainment was excellent though.

Enjoyable Cruise by harista

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Ventura / Destination: Europe

Disappointed not to have visited Sardinia but understand weather made this not possible. We enjoyed the convenience of not flying but of course this added to the number of sea days and overall we had four days of dull or bad weather. Surprised that during the periods of adverse sea conditions the ship moved more than expected for its size. Although we weren't sick as such it was uncomfortable at times particularly over prolonged period - 24 hours at one point. Ventura is a good ship with a good crew and really would have no hesitation with cruising on her again.

Onboard the P&O Ventura was my first cruise holiday and a brilliant family holiday all round. Fun filled days from start to finish with the activities, entertainment, ports of call, shopping & much more. I have already recommended to other family members and friends.

We had a wonderful stay... by benettridge

Sail date: /
Ship: Ventura

We had a wonderful stay on Ventura. The cabins were large and the food was great, with tables always available at the buffet. We were entertained on the sea days with the swimming pools and deck games and thoroughly enjoyed the evening shows. Our whole family loved the trip and we hope to sail with p and o again.
