Review summary

I agree with all that seadogrob has said and now I'll add my bit. Embarkcation was and disembarkation was excellent. Taking most of your cases early was a good idea and then taking you down deck by deck was also better than on other cruise lines. However informing you to use your original luggage labels the night before you disembark was a bit of a pain as we had removed them early in the cruise as we thought we would be issued new ones as other lines do, so we had to go to reception to get more. Now for some negatives. We have done 20+ cruises and the food in the buffet was awful, especially breakfast. Eggs were often cold and hard, sausages we frequently had to scrape off of the dishes and they were burnt along the bottom. Rolls one day were hard around the edges as if they had been left out all night. Very little variety i.e fish, pancakes ,savories were often not available, and we weren't late risers. Lunch wasn't much better and the only cold drinks available is water. Other lines have much better and visible options. Maybe we've been spoilt by Royal Carribbean and Princess. Dinner in the restaurant was better than those cruise lines though , with 4 or 5 courses all well cooked and good waiters which is more than can be said for the lunchtime waiters in the saffron where we went a couple of times. We found them to be very standoffish and didn't seem bothered to serve you or not. Now for the worst part. The bloody ship leaks😬 My daughter and husband were on deck 15 forward and after the first night of bad weather the passage outside their cabin was soaking. This went on for several days in spite of staff trying to dry it. They were given a couple of bottles of wine and a free meal with wine in the epicurean as compensation. We found out later that more forward cabins and on lower decks had been effected and it is apparently caused by water splashing out of the pools in bad weather and finding its way through the floors. Apparently the ship is going into Hamburg in March for a refit and to cure the problem. One of the waiters told us he had to move cabins 6 times til they cured it on the part he was in. Anyway on a different topic the daytime entertainment is poor if there is bad weather because there is only shuffleboard and quoits outside and they don't arrange any extra quizzes if you can't get on deck so it can be a bit boring. The entertainment staff apart from that, are excellent. They were always on time and efficient at the outdoor deck games, the quizzes and sail away. The top member Wez is leaving but no-one seems to know how or why. The shows of a evening were superb and catered for every taste. Sorry this review has been so long but I wanted to express my views although others may disagree with my observations

We are going on Ventura on 1st October too. Lovely ship with plenty to do. My husband is in a wheelchair but we have had minimal problems with lifts, we find it easier avoiding the midship lifts as they tend to be busier. See you onboard Yorghan1 😁🚤🚢

I quite agree. No point taking a lift to go one deck or two if you are able to take the stairs. Going from deck 5 to 15 on the other hand, now that does require a lift ;-)

@dcuk9 unforunatly not everyone is as young and able bodied as you but its nice to know as your kind actions leave space for others

Aha the lifts. That's why I usually use the stairs, can be far quicker than waiting for a lift.

olldbob    7 years ago

there are lifts forward , aft and mid ships on the ventura.

It was mainly the position of the lifts . it's a long thin ship and it only had 4 lifts in the centre so consequently with a lot of disabled people on board who needed the lifts it was chaos with long waits. You can read about the problems on cruise critic from 2 years ago but I think it was going in for a refit so that may be resolved now.

I'm curious to know what aspect of Britannia's layout made it so awful?

olldbob    7 years ago

we love the ventura nice open layout so easy to find your way round theres a promanade deck that goes almost all around the ship shows are good and a variety of evening entertainment. We tend to chill and read on sea days but there are quizes, cinema, port talkes and guest speakers also some social deck games We are sailing on her again on the 14th enjoy your cruise as i'm sure we will any more questions plz ask
