On embarkation day hit Park Cafe in Central Park for lunch. They have great soups, salads and sandwiches and you don't have to deal with the crowd in the Windjammer buffet

Get a cabin near one of the elevator banks - we were in the exact middle of the ship and it meant a long walk every time we went somewhere.
