The cruise was wonderful. The cruise line tours sucked.

Cabin / Stateroom

Very nice quiet balcony cabin. Great location on deck six. Easy access to the boardwalk also on deck 6. The royal promenade, Cafe promenade, Sorrento pizza, was less than a 2 minute walk down the stairs on deck 5.
Ship tip
I don't recommend the tours through the cruise line. Too crowded & rushed and expensive. Also every tour had a disgusting meal included, and a stop at a factory shopping tour. Moreover, you can coordinate your own affordable personalized tours at each port. Viator .com with guaranteed ship return. Also youtube videos tell about how to get to Rome from Civitavecchia. In retrospect, I wish I had done my own tours.
We paid $59 each for a bus ride to the leaning tower of Pisa. We also pre-paid online 27 euros each for entrance to the tower & adjacent buildings. In retrospect, we should have taken the train for 7 euros round trip.
The Amalfi Coast boat tour was canceled bc of high winds. Instead we went to Sorrento and a wood working factory tour with overpriced items for sale. In the afternoon, we went to cameo factory tour also with high priced sale items, followed by 1.5 hours at Pompeii.
Imperial Rome Tour. We saw the forum & coliseum. Had a bland generic lunch. We did not get to go inside the Vatican. 🤬 Highly disappointed! I recommend a personal tour using viator .com with guaranteed ship return.
We got off the ship on our own time with our luggage. There were plenty of taxis available. Three of us with luggage took a taxi to the airport for 39 euros total.
You’re so right about the ship tours, we avoid where possible. We’ve done the train to Pisa ourselves but with Rome it’s not just a case of getting there it’s getting to all the places you want to see. We decided not to go down that route and found reasonably priced tours with 3rd parties that started at 7am and packed loads into the day.
