Review summary

Great cruise! We had a wonderful vacation and would recommend Royal Caribbean!

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Miami port parking was horrendous and signage was poor. No available parking for vehicles that have car toppers as parking garage does not accommodate the height. Found out the hard way even after asking an employee at drop off. After finally finding someone to help with parking the embarkation was quick and painless, however we did have the key too. Was on ship within a few minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We actually liked all the food in the main dining room and buffet but we are a pretty basic family. My husband has a gluten allergy and most of the places were helpful and accommodating especially Arnold and James in main dining room. Also asked night prior for food choices so that they had gluten free meal ready for him. Great service!

Park Cafe

2 out of 5

Went for breakfast and this was the only place that was not helpful or accommodating to a gluten allergy. My husband felt like he was a problem for asking and the head chef was not friendly at all. Not many choices so we only ate there the once.

Windjammer Marketplace

4 out of 5

Great selections of food. There are 4 pop machines to use for the soda package which are great. Gluten free selection is not that much compared to the rest of the selections. We could always find something to curb our appetite there.

Wonderland

4 out of 5

This is an amazing experience for a restaurant and Mad Hatter was so on par. The food was different but if you like different and specialty restaurants this is definitely for you. My children are a little picky as i am and don’t prefer seafood appetizers. Overall it was a great experience!

Johnny Rockets

5 out of 5

This place is fun with great food. The servers broke out in a dance during our dinner which was so fun. Food was great tasting and since we had it free with the boardwalk room it was definitely worth the value. I would not hesitate to pay for it as an extra though. Complimentary Breakfast was also good and very accommodating with the gluten allergy.

Sorrento's

5 out of 5

Great Pizza. Very accommodating for gluten pizza. Always made a fresh pizza. Very convenient hours for late night munchies. Also 2 soda machines to refill cups which was handy.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed all the activities that we had a chance to do. However the key program was a waste here as the times were only one activity a day and not even everyday and not great times. Being that this was the presidential/birthday cruise there were a lot of pinnacle people which helped with wait times on slides and other activities as there were not a lot of young people or children using it. Loved the skating, slides, flowrider, rock climbing and zip lining.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment was top notch. Extremely enjoyable Hiro, 1977, and flight as well as Hairspray. Key seating was okay but if you get there early there are better seats anyway. The key/pinnacle/gold etc. Section wasn’t necessarily the best views. 1977 was viewed from the side but front would have been better and the balcony for Hairspray wasn’t the best views.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Jason was our room steward and always pleasant and attentive. Our waiters were fabulous in the main dining room Arnold and James. Most of the workers are very pleasant and friendly to deal with throughout the ship.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very clean ship and was beautifully decorated throughout. Ship is huge and very top heavy which was a constant rocking motion left to right (far worse than the other 4 ships we have been on prior) even with calm waters. However we just used wrist bands and medication throughout cruise to help with motion sickness. This is obviously to be expected on the largest ship in the world and due to us picking the 12th floor and back of ship which didn’t help.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Great view of boardwalk, a little blocked view of aqua theatre and ocean but was great to be able to have multiple views. We were able to watch Hiro from our balcony which was great. Size of the room was fabulous for four people and quite roomy with a lot of storage. Beds were a little hard except for the bottom one of the couch which my daughter loved. Room was always kept clean by room attendant Jason.

Ship tip

Book shows early, show up 30 min prior for great seats with or without the key. Try as many different restaurants. Enjoy your cruise and always be patient and friendly with others!

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
Did Sea trek and we loved it. It is a weird feeling going down the ladder trying to pop your ears every two steps. My one daughter was scared but did eventually get down the ladder. Definitely not for someone that is claustrophobic. Afterwards we got dropped off downtown and had time to shop a bit and then walked back to ship. Great port, felt safe to walk around and everyone we met was friendly.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

5 out of 5
Loved Cococay! We got off the ship early and there was no wait on the waterslides at all. We managed to do all of them by 10:30 and then enjoyed the wave pool. The afternoon we walked across the bridge to the buffet. Food was good with a lot of choices. Soda was a pain to get as there are no machines and you have to wait in line at the bar to get a drink. It also closed fairly early. Pop package wasn’t great to use on the island. Then we went on the seadoo tour which was so much fun. Everything on the island was great and no complaints here. Enjoy as much as possible

Miami, Florida

4 out of 5
Busy in port but as expected. We drove there that day and it was so stressful with traffic and not knowing where to go.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Beautiful city. We did not book an excursion and walked around. We looked around at local merchandise, in quaint shops, and stumbled upon the pigeon park, unbrella street, and then walked around a fort. Puerto Rico has beautiful scenery to just take in.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Had breakfast in the main dining room for key guests. After breakfast they directed us to the regular line to join in. No additional key perks other than the luggage was in the key section and easy to find. We were quick to get off the ship and to our car but I would say that was for everyone and not just key guests. Again key was a waste here other than for breakfast.
