Review summary

This was my wife and son's first cruise. I had been on many other cruises in the past, both on RCCL and other cruise lines. This ship was absolutely amazing and absolutely gigantic. We all enjoyed the trip completely. Only a few hiccups but that's to be expected. Overall a great trip and I would recommend this trip to anyone

Embarkation

Great experience, very streamline and comfortable. No issues at the port

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room was gorgeous and the staff was amazing. The food was fantastic and left nothing to desire. We didn't try any of the specialty restaurants owing to the fact that they cost extra which was somewhat disappointing. The buffet was also amazing although it would have been nice to see some day to day variety in food choices

Windjammer Marketplace

5 out of 5

Great food, just wish there were a few more options from day to day instead of the same food available each day

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The only negative thing I have to say about the activities is that 7 days is simply not enough time to get through all of then activities Symphony of the Seas has to offer.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The only show we went to was the "Hero" show. It was fantastic and my 11 year old son absolutely loved it

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
My son was in the kids area "Adventure Ocean" only for a little while because it's located in the very front of the ship and because this was his first cruise the rocking of the ship in the front made him sick.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was simply amazing! Our stateroom attendant took extremely good care of us and our main dining staff was also amazing. Anything we asked for we got. The general staff around the rest of the ship was extremely friendly.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship is the biggest ship I've ever been on and the layout was absolutely amazing. The only complaint is that there seemed to be too few elevators for the amount of people on the ship. There were 24 elevators but it seemed like we were always having to wait a long time for an elevator or else we just decided to take the stairs.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were in room 10-690. Our stateroom was always very clean owing to our room attendant. Really the only complaint was that since we had our son, he slept on the rollout bed from the couch which in our room just happened to be located between our bed and the balcony and when my son's bed was pulled out it left very little room to walk out onto the balcony.

Ship tip

Make sure you get the wristband for your seapass. It costs an extra $4.99 a band but it was so worth it because you no longer had to carry your card with you around the ship.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
The beaches are a little rocky but that's just the way they are and that can't be helped. We were supposed to go on the BOSS underwater experiencing but when we went to register on the ship the first day, they gave us a medical waiver and told us that we could not do the excursion because we take prescription medications. To me that's simply ridiculous and was extremely disappointing. We got our money back but I could not believe that just because my wife and I take medications we could not do the excursion.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

3 out of 5
We didn't have an excursion planned for this port so really all there was to do was shopping and the natives on the island were pretty pushy in trying to sell you things so we got off the ship to buy a few souvenirs and then got back on the ship to swim and enjoy on board activities.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Nassau is a beautiful port of call. We did a dolphin encounter on Bal Moral Island. All I can say is that the next time we do a cruise we are going to be sure to go through the cruise line for our excursions. We decided that because it was much cheaper to go through one of our rewards programs to get our excursions we would try that. The staff associated with the excursion was not very friendly and it was very unorganized. The dolphin encounter itself was amazing but the experience getting there was very stressful.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Much, much easier and quicker than I was expecting.
