Review summary
I loved the itinerary from this California Coastal Cruise. I would do this one again. Nice mix of ports and sea days.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We breezed through embarkation without any issues whatsoever.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food on board was as good as ever. Lots of variety to choose from. We enjoyed eating in the dining room for breakfast and dinner and visited the buffet most of the time for lunch and snacks. We did not visit the specialty restaurants.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
I really enjoyed taking part in the trivia contests and art auctions and loved the thermal beds, sauna and rain forest shower in the spa. I didn't use the pools or fitness center.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The entertainment was good. Although I didn't attend the stage shows, others traveling with me did and enjoyed them very much. I did enjoy the few shows I saw in the Piazza with the ship entertainers.
Children's Programs
I did not travel with any children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The service and staff for the most part was amazing. We encountered some wonderful wait staff and crew that really made our trip fantastic.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was very clean and well-maintained, but is definitely starting to show her age a bit. I've been on the Star before and just noticed a few little things that show age. However, they did recently change carpets, so that really spruced it up. I do like the layout of the ship and could find my way very easily.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The size and cleanliness of the room was great. This was the first time in an obstructed view room that I noticed noise outside the room due to pretty windy conditions and something outside the window banging against the ship. But overall, it served our needs.
We did the Shot in Astoria tour and it was amazing! The tour guide was fantastic and took us to many locations where movies had been filmed in the area. She also told us lots of historical facts about Astoria and we loved every minute of it.
Loved that the ship docked within walking distance of Pier 39 and Fisherman's wharf. We did not do an excursion, but had a full day of shopping, walking and riding a cable car. Fun day.
This port was okay, but had to take a tender in from the ship, so that always adds a bit of extra to the getting on and off the ship. There was a nice fisherman's wharf with shops and restaurants to explore, but the wharf is quite a walking distance from the town and there wasn't much else to do without taking an excursion, which we did not do.
We breezed through disembarkation as easily as embarkation. Our number was called earlier than expected, we found our luggage without any problem and went through customs very quickly.
