Review summary

DO NOT  take room B620 or a room next to it because you are under the room service kitchen and will hear things rolling and banging above you all night. Customer service on board will do nothing all I got from them was "too bad -nothing we can do". If three ships are in port of Vancouver plan on a 3 hour plus wait to get on board because they only use the normal staff that only handles 1 ship. It shows that they care more about money than passengers. So get there early around 11am and then you have only 1 hour or so wait. This was a voyage of the glaciers but this captain didn't want to get near the glaciers. Hubbard glacier he stayed 10-15 miles away and you could only see less than 1/2 the glacier at a far distance. Glacier Bay he got only as close to see half the glacier.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Lido deck buffet was so so at best with about the same things everyday. Breakfast was the best meal of the day. Main dinning room had good choices on the menu about every other day. They do have salmon, chicken on the everyday menu.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Cruise staff did a good do with on-board activities

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Besides the normal dhows with the singers and dancers there was only 1 stand-up comedian and an instrumentalist.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
on board customer service didn't care at all about our problem with room B620

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The star is an older ship and most of the ship looks good although there are areas that show its age

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
It is under the food service kitchen and you will hear things rolling and banging all night. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and is in need of replacing. We had water running from the ceiling (fortunately over the sink in the bathroom) and the plumber came up and said he needed to fix a leak on deck 8 and would be back to fix our leak.

Ship tip

We were booked for the fixed dinning but when we got on-board they had changed us to anytime dining. That worded out well for us because we go there when it opened and there wasn't much of a line.Later (around 6:30) had longer lines and wait times.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
A big city but easy to get around in. We took the sky train form the terminal to the airport for about $2 each. A lot better than the transfers offer by Princess.

Ketchikan, Alaska

5 out of 5
a good town for buying souvenirs. It rains nearly everyday. We waited until later to tour the town and the rain had stopped by noon

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
The capital city and not much to do in town so they sell a lot of tours.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
a nice but small town

Whittier (Anchorage), Alaska

3 out of 5
Just a drop off point to get to Anchorage-There is nothing here.

All of the interior B600+ cabins are under that noise. There is noise above, noise below, and noise behind. You will be woken up at least once at 3am.

It is a shame you did not do tours. They are the true enjoyment of Alaska.
