Excellent cruise, great ship and staff. Ideal itinerary
Embarkation
5 out of 5
From taxi to being in Baird was about 5 minutes. We walked straight thru the Mayflower Terminal despite having a popular (11.30am) boarding time. Excellent.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Everything was good. I am not a foodie so I can only comment on what I had. But there were generally a number of good choices and of course you are never stuck for something to eat. We didn’t do any Specialty dining.
Vista Lounge
4 out of 5
Larger venue used for trivia and bingo but also closed a lot for Elite Passenger events. I guess they have to hold these somewhere but it would have been good if they used this venue more than Princess Live for some trivia and popular game shows.
International Café
4 out of 5
Great idea to have a 24 hour venue. Can get busy in the morning. The service is generally quick.
Princess Live!
4 out of 5
Venue often used for trivia and game shows. It can get a bit overcrowded so get there early. Bar service was very good - we felt like “regulars” almost from day one, especially when one waiter - Mahesh - quickly knew our order, names and cabin details.
Alfredo's Pizzeria
5 out of 5
There seemed to be some very busy times and, as it’s a fairly small venue, there can be waiting, we ate here only once but didn’t have to wait. The food was very good and served quickly.
World Fresh Marketplace
5 out of 5
Good layout, plenty of tables (and there are always tables on deck if it’s too busy). Plentiful food, cheery service.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Other than entertainment, the only onboard activity I attended was occasional walking on the track and the casino.
Princess Casino
4 out of 5
It helps when you win a little, but it was a good venue. Not too smoky which was good. Played roulette a few times - good fun.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We visited the Princess Theatre about half the nights. We loved Rock Opera (my son went to both performances the same night) and enjoyed both nights of Josh Daniels. The hypnotist show was a bit slow and some other acts were a bit hit and miss. The ship’s musicians were very good.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff in Cielo MDR were excellent. We were recognised at the door most nights, even before logging our Medallions. We always got a good table (we didn’t have a fixed table and generally sat at a Table for 2) and the service was great. Jayson mostly looked after us. All other staff were usually smiling and pleasant.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Layout was logical, the ship was well maintained and very clean
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Travelled with my son but in separate cabins, so we went for Inside cabins. To be honest, it was just somewhere to sleep and change clothing. It was plenty big for me (may have been more challenging if sharing) even the bathroom. It was kept clean and the bed was comfy.
Had never heard of this town. We did the Cannon museum and city walk. We had expected a lot of historic cannons but were pleasantly surprised by this being an old WW2 German bunker complete with the worlds second largest cannon. All the bunkers were authentic and you could touch the cannon, shells etc. There was even an officers room (behind glass) with all its original features- well worth seeing and they should consider changing the name of the tour. Nice port area for walking too.
Sadly our itinerary was swapped and we had less time here than we were supposed to. However we managed to walk from port to the market place and visit Soumenlinna Fortress by taking one of the regular ferries. It was about 40 minutes walk each way but that helped some calories!! The Fortess was well worth visiting (it’s free other than the ferry ride). Excellent market and great cathedrals (Catholic and Russian Orthodox next door to each other)
We took an excursion to see the Castles of North Seeland. It was interesting although we were actually only in one castle (others were outside visits) which was amazing. The tour guide was excellent. It’s a long day (10am til 4pm) with no free time and no breaks - so eat lots for breakfast. We also had a brief stop at The Little Mermaid statue
We did the Vasa Museum which was excellent. That was preceded by the Viking Museum which was quite small and probably not worth doing except for the 10 minute ride thru scenes of an old Viking village and life - that was very good. We broke from our excursion to do the ABBA museum (it’s a 5 minute walk from Vasa). Well worth it.
We visited St Mary’s Church and drove past the historic Gdańsk shipyards. All very good and enjoyable. Our experience of Gdańsk was much more picturesque and historic than I expected.
Arrived a day early and spent some time walking in the city. Great old walls, good shopping and restaurants. First experience of driving to the departure port and it was good.
I had never heard of Visby and it was only after I booked the excursion that I realised it was the island of Gotland. We had a walking tour thru the old town which was very good.
