The ship was beautiful, but the staterooms were small. Food in the buffet and specialty restaurants was good, but the dining room could use some help in that department. Loved the library, spa, gym festive Christmas decorations, but was disappointed they didn't do anything special for Christmas Eve dinner. New Year's Eve party was a lot of fun, and the New Year's Day Brunch was spectacular.
Embarkation

There was a bit of confusion when we embarked. There was no one there to greet us, nor was there any food available so we had to call room service once we got into our room.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
With the exception of the buffet, service in the dining room and specialty restaurants left a great deal to be desired. They were short staffed and the staff that they had seemed inexperienced. The food in Red Ginger was excellent. The food in Tuscan Steak was good, but there was confusion as to how they cooked their steaks. My husband had to send his back twice. The food in the dining room was adequate, but the real star was the food in the buffet. They did such a great job and the variety was amazing.
Onboard Activities

Loved the fitness center and spa. I had a great masseuse.

Service and Staff

The room stewards were fantastic. Always accommodating and friendly. Ship personnel were professional and helpful. Restaurant waiters need some additional training. They made a friendly effort to do their best, but you need more staff and have them better trained.

Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Our cabin was clean and somewhat comfortable for the size. We could have used more room for our clothes. I disliked having to wade through a sea of clothes hanging on the wall in order to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I also couldn't believe how small our state room was! I thought that because I was sailing on a luxury brand ship that the staterooms would be bigger and a lot more comfortable. And the bathroom was less than desirable and quite frankly claustrophobic. I resorted to going to the gym to take my showers to be more comfortable. If I had wanted a middle of the road cruise, I would have booked a trip on Princess, which I was told by staff used to own the Insigna.
Ship tip
Make good use of the library. It is beautiful and a great way to spend an afternoon at sea.
No ship excursion, but we took a cab to a fabulous restaurant called Flora Farms; it was a beautiful farm to table experience about 40 minutes from the port.
I did the ship's Walk in the Clouds tour. While I loved being in the rainforest, I was very disappointed that I didn't see any animals whatsoever. I wish I would have known that as I would have booked another tour.
What a dump! We walked around the port and it was completely devoid of any kind of charm or culture. It was just row after row of jewelry shops. I would have preferred going to Cuba.
All brochures explain the size and sq footage of staterooms, and unless you were in Narnia, I’m not sure I understand wading through a sea of clothes to get to the bathroom. Why 2 stars for Costa Rica because the wild animals didn’t perform in demand?!
