Review summary

This was my first time with Regent and we enjoyed it very much. Yes, there were things I would definitely change but overall it was lovely. For the price there should be no hiccups. Hope they will work on some of these areas. I really like the smaller ship concept & will only do this in the future.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We had an issue because it was our understanding all beverages were complimentary. I am a cabernet drinker and was very disappointed find only ONE brand in all the bars and restaurants and it was not even a good one. We were told on Sunday ( day 5) by the sommelier that there were several varieties available and all we had to do is ask. We again asked in the one of the bars and they again said that one was all that was available. My husband told them what the sommelier had said and they informed him he would have to order in 45 in advance because they had to go to the wine cellar to get other types. Our favorite restaurant was the steak house and the food & Service was outstanding. The Compass Rose was very good but service was very slow each time we dined. The French restaurant was also very good but we only dined there one night. We were rather put off with the buffet each morning and lunch. You had to order from the cooks if you wanted fresh eggs. The others came out of a bag. The atmosphere was always unfriendly and the servers and supervisors looked unhappy. We would sit with dirty plates and glasses needing to be refilled even though the sups saw it and ignored it. There were a few warm and wonderful servers but this was not the norm. I truly believe the quality of service is a direct reflection of management. I saw several of the same wait staff in the evening at other restaurants and their attitudes and moods seemed better. These people work from sun up to sun down and I admire their tenacity.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There weren't a lot of activities but that was okay as were usually on a excursion every day. Enjoyed the jogging track up top. Gym was pretty small but adequate.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was okay not great. Some of it was pretty corny but I know they tried hard.

Children's Programs

So nice to not have children of this genre of cruise. Of course there was one but isn't there always?

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward was outstanding and did a great job. There were many sweet and kind servers working on the ship. Especially in the lounges. They knew us and took very good care of us. Overall the service was good but it was not up to what was touted by the cruise line.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I have no complaints in this area. Everything always looked great.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved the cabin. The bed was comfy and the pillows perfect. Liked having a big closet and having a place for everything. The bathroom was spacious and having a tub was nice. My only complaint would be the smell coming from the shower drain. It smelled like sewage and never got any better during the cruise.

Ship tip

The excursions were typically all day so there was not much time for relaxing & and enjoying the ship. Maybe pick some shorter excursions or skip a day to stay on board.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain Did not visit port

We embarked here. Toured on our own.

Palamos, Spain

Very nice excursion but could have been much shorter. One village would have sufficed.

Marseille (Provence), France

Loved seeing Van Gogh's last "home" and the gardens were beautiful.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

Very nice tour but again a bit too long. Monaco was lovely but very busy.

Ajaccio, Corsica

The market area was nice but really not much to do.

Portofino, Italy

La Spezia (Cinque Terre), Italy

Loved this town but unfortunately it was a Sunday and the buses were unable to take us directly down. Our tour guide said we would have to wait for the town trolleys or we could follow her down. We chose to follow her and unfortunately a friend travelling with broke her foot on the uneven streets. We spent a couple of hours trying to get her help and get her back to the ship. Once we got her situated we only had about 15 minutes to see the port. It took forever to get transportation back to the meeting area. A wasted day that could have been much better. I would like to visit here again someday.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Love Rome. It was our disembarkation port so no tours were scheduled. We went on our own on a Segway tour and had a great time.
