Review summary

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the itinerary. We applaud the absence of a formal night allowing us to be comfortable. Would prefer a casual area for late evening dining/drink. Food and drink were excellent and staff provided all the assistance we needed.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Luggage was taken right out of our limo and checkin was a breeze.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We don't drink a lot of alcohol but it was nice ordering what we want. Food was excellent, especially in the specialty restaurants.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Limited activities but that wasn't too much of a problem since we spent most time off the ship.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Quality (skills) of the performers was a little below what we have had on other cruises but we enjoyed nonetheless.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Friendly most of the time.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very nice accommodations, facilities and lounge/pool areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Best we have ever had. Very roomy and comfortable.

Ship tip

Would like to have one casual dining / bar area that permits blue jeans. When arriving back at the ship late and just wanting a quick bite and drink, we don't want to have to change for an hour or two.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

We arrived 2 days early to enjoy Rome. We arranged private tours that were fabulous. What was disappointing about most of the excursions provided by Regent is that each consisted of ~30 people with no voice box. It was impossible for everyone to hear the guide.

Sorrento, Italy

Interesting visit to Pompeii with fascinating historical facts. Provided free time which was good. See comment on Rome.

Taormina, Sicily

We docked at a different port and yet there was no impact to excursions .. impressive! We did the optional tour to the villa in the film Godfather which we really enjoyed.

Valletta, Malta

Really liked having the excursions start a little later allowing time for a relaxed breakfast. Nice tour with demonstrations of jewelry making and glass blowing. Very quaint environment.

Corfu, Greece

Went to the Drogarati cave which was typical of others we have visited and not very exciting. We really enjoyed the Mellissani cave and lake. That was a unique experience taking the row boat out onto the lake and seeing the sights.

Durres (Tirana), Albania

5 out of 5
Really enjoyed the visit to the Albanian house where we tasted their local foods and wine. Our guide was especially interesting sharing stories of life in a socialist society.

Kotor, Montenegro

Enjoyed the town and sights but the guide spent too much time going through the streets cutting into the time we were supposed to have for shopping. She released us on the far side of the town leaving barely enough time to get back to the meeting point.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Physically challenging but that was made pretty clear in the advance materials. Beautiful views but not able to hear the guide because we had no boxes and there was not enough room to congregate close to the guide to hear.

Venice, Italy

Beautiful city but the tour was the worst we have ever had. The first guide was very nice and helped us get to the location via boat. She handed off to the older guide but stayed with us. The older guide spent WAY too much time in the one church giving endless details. As we left the church, we asked the guide to find a place for the ladies to go to the rest room. She said 10 more minuted every 10 minutes afterwards. It was about 30 minutes before she finally released us and even then had to give complicated directions for finding a restroom. We were held captive because they would not tell us the meeting point until she released us. Even the nice guide tried to get the older guide to have a restroom stop but she ignored her.

Disembarkation

Pretty smooth. Only improvement would be to keep the luggage together. We had to search for a while to find one of our luggage.
