First time on Princess and didn’t quite live up to our expectation but nevertheless was enjoyable and have booked another for the Regal Princess.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very impressed with the speed and ease. Seemed to work well with Security taking your photo onboard rather than check in staff.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
A little disappointed with choice in MDR some evenings and a couple of dishes were poor but the chocolate desserts were truly delicious! Really liked the choice of having 3 dining rooms on Anytime Dining. Coffee in Horizon for breakfast was undrinkable and for a UK resident we found the drink prices unbelievably expensive. Luckily we don’t drink alcohol but the alcohol free bottles of Heineken which are very refreshing in the sunshine were $13 for two.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The gym was first class with plenty of well maintained equipment.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Thought a lot was very poor but did enjoy Edwina Curry’s two talks. Not a fan of bingo and quizzes. However there were some good films onboard that we hadn’t seen.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Staff were generally well trained, professional and proficient. The photographers were irritating trying to stop you for photos upon leaving the ship and were verging on childish. The occasion we wanted a photo we waited and waited and couldn’t get one. Our steward was a little too ingratiating which we hadn’t experienced before.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
We liked the layout of the ship and found it spotless but a tad dated.
Cabin / Stateroom

We had a D deck mini suite which on P&O Ventura & Azura are known as Deluxe Balconies. Size is excellent and comfort of bed, quilt and pillows was excellent. However the 3 seater settee was saggy in the middle and the bathroom is tired looking with the mirror edges being particularly worn. Really don’t like showers over baths either...give me a decent walk in shower and forget these bathtubs. Two nice flat screen TV’s and plenty of storage and good size balcony.
Cabo Girao & Camara de Lobos by taxi - great views but should have agreed a price beforehand as think we got ripped off a bit. Found a great shoe shop in central Funchal.
Playas de las Canteras was nice but the dunes at Maspalomas were rather underwhelming. Having last seen dunes in Brazil perhaps had too high expectations and found the trip there a bit depressing, certainly not a scenic island IMO.
