Review summary

The Ruby Princess is a very beautiful ship with friendly staff. In fact we were told that the Ruby Princess had just been awarded "The Friendliest Ship at Sea". Even though the ship was full, with lots of kids, we were able to get seated quickly at dinner and there were plenty of seats in the Theater. The only place that we had to arrive early was in the Explorers lounge for the Cruise staff games. The food overall was very good. The guest entertainers were excellent, and Cruise Staff games were fun. In fact Natalie and her entire cruise staff and Mike the ED were all excellent and helped make the cruise memorable.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Even though we had to pick up our Medallians onboard, the embarkation was very quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The MDR food was excellent, except for the last night. I am not sure what happened, but at our table of 6, everyone's dinner was not on the par that it had been the rest of the cruise. We also enjoyed the daily specials in the buffet, specifically the sushi and the stirfried Mongollian bowls.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The dance classes in the Fusion Lounge were very good.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The stage shows were just okay, but the special entertainers were excellent: Dan Middleditch, Tommy Proulx, and Kevin Jordan. Two of the onboard singers had a Cabaret show in the Explorers Lounge one evening that was excellent: Mary Margaret and Kylie.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff on board were happy, and went out of their way to make the cruise enjoyable.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was very clean. We are familiar with and enjoy the class of Princess ship. The only negative is the fact that there is very little shade on the open deck. So if you want to get out of the sun, you will be fighting for chairs in the shade. Princess would be wise to add sail cloth to some of the open areas to provide more shade.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This is a standard inside cabin and it was clean and comfortable. The cabin steward Paras was excellent and responded promptly to our requests.

Ship tip

Skywalkers is a great place to sit and read a book when you want to get out of the sun or wind.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Cartagena, Colombia

We were there in January and it was very hot in Old town. We took a taxi right outside the zoo, who took us to many places in Cartegena: El Popa Convent, Las Bovedas, The walled city and Getsemani. It was a great tour but very hot. If you do this wear white clothes and bring water.

Panama Canal (Cruise Into Canal)

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed the commentary by Chris Roberts as we went through the canal. He was very informative.

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

4 out of 5
We took a taxi at the port to Playa Bonita. The water is beautiful, the vendors have well used chairs and umbrellas for rent. The beach was also rather dirty. One of the vendors did try to clean it up while we were there.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

5 out of 5
We took a tour from Shore Excursion Group to Dunns River Falls. it was excellent.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We took the shuttle to Cemetary Beach. The last time we were there there were only a few people on the beach. this time it was packed, but maybe because we were there over the weekend. The garbage bins were overflowing and even trash on the beach.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and painless.
