Review summary

We have 10 cruises on Celebrity. There is no comparison. This was over priced for the true blue light special that it is. In my opinion, Princess has been over hyped, you should look for a quality cruise elsewhere!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We had our medallions mailed to us prior to the cruise, so getting on the ship was fairly quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Did not go to any of the speciality restaurants. In the main dining rooms & buffets : Service was extremely spotty; Choices were limited; Quality was low. Spoke to ship staff about it. They sent a selection of six chocolates to our Stateroom with a written apology.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Went to 2 live destination lectures, they were pretty good.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The house band Pinnacle was pretty good on Motown night and Country Western night. The live show magician and music review shows were pretty mediocre.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Wait staff service generally pretty bad. Cabin was musty smelling and dirty. Talked to hotel manager about that, he promised to do better.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The Public areas looked fine. The elevator and passageway system was confusing and frustrating. You can’t get everywhere on the Ruby Princess by just taking one elevator, lots of areas on the ship do not connect on the same deck.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Cabins, bathrooms and balconies were smaller than on Celebrity. You could also hear a great deal of noise from the passageway in each cabin. There was a ‘safety feature’ in the cabin that were didn’t totally appreciate @ night: motion sensors lights. If you got up after turning out the lights, the floor lights came on & woke everyone in the cabin up! The only plus was a large closet area hidden from the bedroom that had an eye level room safe. Cabin only had a chair and desk, no where for anyone else to sit.

Ship tip

Keep your smart phone handy with the Princess App on it, you will need it constantly!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5
We were warned by Princess to seek off Port Parking because of Holiday congestion. We went to Parking by the Ports @ Dania Beach. The rate was the same, but you have van drivers to tip. The commute to and from the ship was fairly quick!

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Stayed close to the Port, there were signs about COVID prevention everywhere. It appears the cure there is Rum, most people are afraid of the injections!

Cartagena, Colombia

4 out of 5
We have been to this Port before. If you have a cabin on the Port side, you will get an excellent view of the city and pix. A walking tour of Old Town and a bus tour of the rest of the city is good. However, the city bus tour was open air . This time we just walked from the ship to the Oasis, which has a gift ship, mini zoo, and eating facilities. A great place to take some pix of South American animals!

Panama Canal (Cruise Into Canal)

4 out of 5
No excursions. Locals were protesting Canadian mining activities in their Country. The ship didn’t stop after the Canal transit. We only made a partial transit, so after going through the locks the first time, we anchored in Gutain Lake for over 4 hours.

Cristobal, Panama Did not visit port

Political protests.

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

Stayed on the ship. Went to the Terrace Pool and enjoyed the local music on the Pier, also had drinks and lunch there.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Been ther 4 times before. Have done snorkeling off 7 mile beach and visited Stingray City. This time did some shopping @ the craft market.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Very chaotic. We were assigned atop group Brown 1 which was to disembark @ 720. We were in the Michangelo restaurant which is near the gangway on deck 5. When our group was called before we could exit the restaurant, Groups Brown 2 3 and 4 were called and they all exited the ship before we could make our way across the restaurant. We finally got off the ship @ 8:20. Picking up the luggage was easy. Princess had staff that got us a Porter very quickly.
