Ruby Princess

7 Night Pacific Northwest Coast (San Francisco Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 23, 2022

Ship: Ruby Princess

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 2 years ago

Review summary

This was our first Princess cruise and based on the food, it may be our last. The buffet was truly terrible and that is something we’ve enjoyed on other cruise lines very often. There were often very long lines to the buffet, dining room, pool side grill, pizzeria, disembarkation at ports, and the front desk. There were strong smoke smells anywhere near the casino. Having said that, we still had fun, the entertainment was plentiful, beds were extremely comfortable, and there were many bars to choose from with various atmospheres and great bartenders.

Embarkation

Extremely slow and disorganized.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Buffet was terrible. Main restaurant had decent food but nothing like we’ve come to expect on a cruise.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The options for activities both day and night were very good.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
We did. It enjoy the evening shows in the theater. The comedian was boring and the illusionist performed tricks I’ve seen done by kids in grade school.

Children's Programs

We have no children

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The staff tried. Wry hard but they were clearly understaffed and service suffered. There were very long lines to get food at noon and sometime waiting for reservations in the main dining room.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The ship was definitely showing it's age and we rarely saw anyone cleaning any of the public areas. This is probably another instance of being under staffed.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The decor of the cabin was outdated, but storage was plentiful, the bed was extremely comfortable and the size was good.

Ship tip

Avoid the buffet, but the Salty Dog grill and Pizzeria are excellent if the lines aren’t too long.

Ports of call

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5
Arrived 3 days early to fully enjoy the city. Best thing we did on this trip.

Astoria, Oregon

1 out of 5
Not much to see and the weather was rainy.

Seattle, Washington

4 out of 5
Quite a few things to see within walking distance of the ship. We had an excursion booked but it was cancelled.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
Visited Capillano Suspension Bridge park using a free shuttle from the port and it was a lot of fun!

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
We did. It do an excursion. The visit there was very short but we walked in to town and enjoyed both the walk and the town.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We got off the ship about 15 minutes but after that, everything went smoothly.
