Fantastic voyage at half capacity. We owned the place. The Ocean Medallion app is a little wonky. I believe that the Ruby is not set up technically to make if flawless. However it was only a minor frustration and distraction.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Extra Covid protocols put into play by Hawaii not Princess were a pain in the butt. Other than that it was pretty smooth
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
A little short staffed again caused by Hawaii’s protocols prevented ordering drinks at the bar proper for the first 3-4 days until everyone was tested again. The third test w/n the week. Dining room was good. Food was good but not the same quality as my previous sailing. I credit this to sailing at 50 percent capacity and a smaller staff. We’ll see as capacity increase
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Due to lowered capacity, you owned the ship. You want a deck chair by the pool, you got it. Need a seat to the show and it starts in 10 minutes no problem.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Only one major productions but a lot of smaller one/two man shows . I believe that this was done due to Covid precautions. A couple performers get it the big show has to be canceled. One of the small act performers gets it, they could be easily replaced with a different act. Very smart on Princess’ part
Children's Programs
No kids
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
They busted butt even though they were understaffed. They are the backbone of the ship
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Clean as a whistle
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Loved it. A bigger balcony than normal.
Ship tip
Don’t be surprised if the Medallion has problems. The Ruby’s infrastructure is not up for it. Staff was also having difficulties with their hand held readers too
Wonky phone app is a good term for it, Regal was the same in December. IT called it a ‘work in progress’ and said the guy that pushed it was promoted (I would have fired him).
Thank you for your review…I’m looking forward to my next Ruby experience in May and my next Hawaii Ruby experience in October…I hope that the protocols ease by October…but even with the protocols I am still excited about cruising again
