Review summary

This was a fantastic cruise! The Ruby is clean and her crew is upbeat and professional. We found the food overall to be very good though the buffet lacked the greater variety we've seen on other ships. They did not "nickel and dime" us to death as some cruise lines like to do. The gym and spa areas are clean and well apportioned. Unlike some spa areas, the Ruby has a nice sauna and steam room area, both of which reach temperatures that will give you the effect you're looking for. This is a fun itinerary on a great ship! Highly recommend!

Embarkation

Quick though not well organized. Several of the support staff didn't really know what was going on when.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Breakfast mostly in Club dining room where service and food were both good. Food throughout cruise was good in all venues. Bar tenders not especially astute as service varied greatly from bar to bar. Servers rather apethetic. Buffet was overall good though often crowded with minimal variety. Specialty restaurants were exceptional.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Rather limited daily activities. Mostly entertained ourselves. Pool side music was later if at all.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Spacious and comfortable. Very comfortable bed and bedding. Nice split bathroom. Plenty of storage space though the "walk-in" closet was relatively small. Great location near elevator bank and stairs though no noticeable noise from them. Large balcony with two access doors with comfy deck chairs and a dining set with round table and two chairs.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

4 out of 5
About a half hour drive from LAX and relatively easy to maneuver.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

5 out of 5
Fun port with mostly beach activities, bar, restaurants, and shopping.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
Always an enjoyable visit.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
Love Puerto Vallarta. Great restaurants and beaches. Friendly locals, many of whom speak English. Easy to grab a cab to get around.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Quick and easy. Self disembarkation.

Agree on the daytime activities, Princess has dropped a lot of them since we first did the Ruby. 24 March and off to Hawaii again.
