Being that I’ve been on larger ships like the Carnival Vista and Royal Caribbean Oasis and paid the same amount of money. My advice is to go for the newer and larger ships, so much more worth it. You will thank me in the long run. And I will never cruise Princess ever again.

I will never cruise Princess ever again. I have taken cruises about twice a year since 2004 and I been on almost every line out there. Out of the twenty or so cruises I’ve been on, I never been on a Princess cruise line. I did my research and saw that it was refurbished in 2015. My husband and I were newlyweds and decided to take our honeymoon in the Mexican Riviera for seven nights. I would like to say it was the best cruise I’ve ever been on, but I will never cruise Princess ever again. Not only was this cruise more for an older crowd but there were not activities on board but trivia. My husband and I found ourselves when we were not in our room either in the pool or the casino.
The staff on board was not very friendly and some were just down right rude with a major attitude. However, our housekeeper was awesome, friendly and on point with our room cleaning. The cruise director, OMG… who ever gave this man a mic should be slapped. He is so annoying, he wont stop talking. A great word for him is a chatter box.
Now let’s talk food for a moment. The food was down-right bland, no flavor no matter where you eat on board. The lido buffet was always the same food, every day. And I heard their pizza was the best on the seas. However, it was always burnt and so greasy to make you sick. The dining rooms felt cramped and again the staff was unpleasant to be around. The food did change nightly in the dining rooms but generic and bland with no flavor.
The shows, the first two nights was a magic show that my husband and I both fell asleep in. The third and fourth night was a subpar comedian and if the audience wasn’t talking with him he has nothing to talk about. He literally was walking around on stage on said multiple times “what should we talk about.” I mean I’m no professional comedian but have a back up plan if the crowd is quiet. And the last three nights was the singers and dancers, pretty good but can do so much better. They don’t utilize all the laser equipment to the fullest which can make even a better show. If they work on the story line and choreograph.
The boat itself was over all a disappointment. The theater was so compact for the shows. The chairs are smaller than an old movie theater and closer together, didn’t think that was possible. The casino was the smallest I’ve ever been to it even felt cramped. It was clean but just very cramped.

Ship tip
Being that I’ve been on larger ships like the Carnival Vista and Royal Caribbean Oasis and paid the same amount of money. My advice is to go for the newer and larger ships, so much more worth it. You will thank me in the long run if you have to travel to get to one. I will never cruise Princess ever again.
not enough time at port. Was so rushed on our excursion had thirty minutes to shop and had to be back on the bus. definitely, want to go back and spend more time there.
We went to Alaska May 2017 and had they best time ever. So much, we’ve booked the Ruby in December for the Mexican trip.
Yes, the buffet was less desirable but easy access.
We went to the Magic in the Air show and enjoyed it. Not sure who our comedian was, but he was packed and nonstop laughing.
We went to the art auction and spent some money. Got beautiful art work and some free pieces as well.
First day on the ship I danced my heart out with a little old lady who knew the electric slide, then went on to do Zumba with an older Asian couple.
The staff in the Salty Dog were incredible. Since they couldn’t go party, we brought the party them, balloons and all.
Like everyone has said, it is an enjoyable ship. Go cruise on your fancier ships, us Ruby cruisers will continue to have fun and not put the ship down.
Well.. I can't wait to be on Princess! I do not care if they're old, if I see wheel chairs, canes, etc.. I'm there to enjoy MY cruise and they have the right to enjoy too bc I'll be one of them too one day. Hopefully!! I really don't understand why ppl whine so much if they are young or old. Just enjoy your cruise or just don't go. I can't wait for Crown Princess and be dancing with them too with canes and everything!!!🌞
To each there own! We love princess! It’s not like other cruise lines like your stuck in a Burger King playground!
Never had any issues with Princess staff, and the food has always been good.
We cruise Carnival, Celebrity, and Princess. We love all 3 lines. Each have their own good qualities and characteristics, and we understand that they are unique and don’t compare them, in a negative way. Even the destinations and embarkation ports can make the cruise different from others in the same cruise line. We want to try NCL, Royal Caribbean, and Holland America as well. Carnival certainly is a younger crowd. I don’t mind people in wheel chairs, and those who use walkers and canes. I’m glad that they are still able to enjoy cruising. I may be there some day, and would like to avoid people who look down on the cruise line that affords me the opportunity...
.....and for the record my wife and I will NEVER EVER sail with Carnival again. You want rudeness? Carnival is for you. Drunks and shotty service...
As someone else commented....each cruise lines strives to attract a certain type of passenger. We're 77 and 78 years old. NCL started out the best but each new cruise the food and service went downhill. RCL is been consistently good both with food and service..and has become our go-to line.
It almost sounds as if you didn't do any research prior to booking your cruise. Everything from your port reviews and ship review are so negative. With proper research you would of discovered prior to paying a penny that Princess is considered more "upscale" geared towards an older crowd.
My wife and I have been on a total of 12 cruises. 5 each on RCL and NCL, 1 on Carnival and 1 on Princess (Ruby) last November.
Regarding Princess compared to the others.
Best dining room food of all.
Shows: Worse of all. Walked out of two.
Crew: No complaints, all were friendly and helpful.
Passengers: I thought we were on a hospital ship. Never saw so many wheelchairs, walkers and canes.
Activities: Boring for the most part. Band: Just going through the motions,
no passion. Went to a jazz session. So bad we left after two songs..
Would we sail princess again? Yes, but if RCL is available see ya.
“You’ll thank me later...” Seriously? No, I don’t think I’ll be thanking you for any “advice “ you may offer. I believe we see cruising, and probably life in general, differently. We look for the good and what’s enjoyable. It seems as though you look for what you can be unhappy about. Good luck finding a cruise or vacation that meets your standards...
Princess cruises are not for everyone. It's definitely not the amusement park like atmosphere of the mega Carnival or RC ships. No reason to get upset that there are different types of cruises for different tastes. That is a good thing. Sounds like you are not the Princess type. Now you know. Being that you cruise so much it is good that you found out what you don't like. Never seen any polite person treated rudely on any ship though so I can't comment on that.
I was on the Ruby in November and EVERY staff member was great. And there was a lot more to do besides trivia. Food was good and IMO it was the best Princess ship I’ve been on along with the Grand Princess. I’m on her again in two weeks and looking forward to it. I seriously doubt it’s changed that much in just two months. I suggest others read through several other Ruby reviews before making a final decision. I think being on the ship was wonderful.
