Review summary

After this Mexican Riviera cruise, I prefer Caribbean cruises. It was cold at sea. The ports----Puerta Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Licas were nice but nothing special. The excursions were not very good. The food on the Ruby Princess was pretty mediocre. Communication regarding procedures was poor. Anytime dining does NOT work. Long lines to wait for dinner just to get one of those restaurant beepers to wait some more. The evening shows were entertaining, but that was all there was to do. Everything on ship was a big sales pitch. Fortunately, we had a balcony cabin because there was nowhere to go to get away from mobs of people. I never experienced crowds on other cruise lines. Overall, not very impressed with Princess or this route. San Pedro is a dump. I would rather leave from Fort Lauderdale or Galveston. Although, one plus was the embarkation process was quite efficient.

Don't choose any time dining!

Onboard Activities

Good shows, everything else was a sales pitch.

Service and Staff

Food staff very good but our steward seemed bored and uninterested. One staff member who should be commended as very pleasant, friendly and helpful, his name is Sony.

Cabin / Stateroom

Nice cabin. Comfortable bed.

Ship tip

DO NOT BOOK ANY TIME DINING unless you like to eat very late at night or don't mind standing in line a half hour to get your buzzer to wait another 20-30 minutes.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

1 out of 5
Ugly place.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
Pretty. Best port on the trip. Hire Eco-Adventures for wave runners. It's not through Princess and they were great.

Mazatlan, Mexico

1 out of 5
To get to the beach, we rode a boat through an ugly, industrial area which was very polluted with garbage floating in the water and smokestacks puffing out smoke. On the beach, the hawkers would not leave us alone, selling jewelry, trinkets, hats, etc. They don't take no for your answer and when one goes away another starts.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Nice place because of the rock formations.

Yes the Pacific can be chilly especially in winter. Anytime dining is OK unless you plan to eat around 7:00 when everyone wants to eat. Are you sure they didn't offer Movies under the Stars, musical entertainment, dancing, comedy club, karaoke, etc. in addition to the shows? I thought there was almost too much to choose from in the evening.

I think Carnival sounds more your style.
