Christmas Cruise 2015 by krog

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean

The Southern Caribbean islands are beautiful.  Cabin with balcony was delightful - enjoyed early morning sunrise and coffee as well as sunsets and wine away from the crowds of diners.  The Royal Princess being a new ship was definitely well adorned and easy to navigate from all areas. The weather was wondrous and plenty of sunshine on the pool decks.  Delicious meals in the dining rooms including Filet Mignon, lobster, prawns, Chateaubriand, lamb, duck, and beautiful dessert selections.

Great cruise - AWFUL experience with <img class='agent-replacement' src='/images/hideagent.png'>! by MarinaGoren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean

We are a family of 4 with 2 little kids (3 and 7) and spent a LOT of money to go on the Winter Break cruise on Princess.  We were super excited - kids and adults both. We had no idea what was waiting for us once we opened our cabin door....

Instead of a nice king size bed for my husband and I (as we were promised) and a pull out couch and a bunk for our kids, we had 2 twin beds (pretty far apart from each other) and 2 bunk beds for kids.  We found out that we cannot put the twin beds together with the bunk beds open (the way the room was laid out) and we cannot put our 3 year old on a bunk bed (duh!!!) for safety reasons (as if I would have done that).  So for 10 nights on our "dream" vacation, we all slept in 4 separate beds and my husband - on the bunk one!  How non-romantic and not comfortable!

But here is why I am really complaining about this.... I was not sure how the bedding arrangements might work, so for that reason, instead of booking on the website, I called the live travel agent so that she can explain and select the right room for us. She did.... supposedly.  Except for, she did not!!!!  The cruiseship was booked (Christmas week after all) and so no other cabins were available.  I called , and all I got from them was an apology.  It was nice they apologized, but it did not make our highly paid dream vacation any better!  For working parents of young kids, this vacation was a rare opportunity to reconnect and remember that in addition to being parents - we are a couple.  They took our money and took our opportunity away.  I have booked with 4 cruises, but this will be my last one!  It's better to pay an extra hundred dollars but have a knowledgeable person helping you book your vacation and know what you are signing up for.

Aside for this big snafoo, the rest of our cruise was wonderful and we liked Princess.

Royal Princess is Beautiful by Cruiser297

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean

All was great but dinner action was quite busy with large families at Christmas. Made getting a share table difficult at times.

Being Catholic and being Christmas would have liked Princess to provide more info on Christmas day services including mass times on any island where we docked on Christmas day. Never got a reply to our inquiry on that at the front desk even though they said they would. Had to wait until day before to learn of a Catholic prayer service at midnight .

Great ship and service, but very elderly passenger clientele by drodiehl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our first Princess cruise after several other cruises with Carnival and Norwegian. The Royal Princess was a beautiful, relatively new ship. Service, food, and entertainment were all very good. We were shocked by the demographics of the passengers. We are both 61 and we felt like youngsters on this cruise. I'd, say the average age was over 70. There were so many obese, and handicapped (wheels chairs, mobies, walkers) passengers that it actually started to get kind of depressing. It felt like we were a floating nursing home. I don't know if this was representative of a typical Princess cruise, but it will definitely cause us to think twice before booking another one with Princess.

This was our first cruise on the Royal Princess and it was outstanding.  All aspects of the vessel were great.  Only problem was moving around the theater.  Need to add more aisles.

Our Days on the Royal Princess by lenoraszachor

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

..Our cabin was C217..  Our cabin Stewart  was excellent,  Cecile.  Very efficient, replaced my needs before I even asked.  I you'd her I wish I could take her home with us!  Very polite , concerning and just excellent.

..The entertainment was some if the best we have ever seen on cruise ships!

...Sorry I can't remember the name of the gentleman who took care of off shop purchases.  He also helped me in many other areas too! Quick to answer all questions!

....With a great Italian captain, I expected better food! Too much Mexican and Spanish.  Dining room needed more On-the-light side menus!  I like other ships that have waiters doing something entertaining every night.  Italian night, Mexican night, piano player!  Many complained the assigned table seating dining room was the same as anytime dining!

...My husband was disappointed at the casino. Too small!  And for me, too expensive .  No penny  machines, big joke.  Should be called what the minimum bet is!  $.50,. $.25.  $1.00 ect,!!!!

....too many activities overlapped each other.  Missed several I would have liked to attend...  Other than that.. Good trip. Despite the rain.

Princess Quality by gficke

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Excellent cruise in almost every aspect.

Only weakness was the on board entertainment. The song/dance shows were okay but too frequent. The comics (2) were one good, one average. Hawley Magic great.

The TV selections were very limited. Movie selection good.

We take most meals in the dining room and they were as well done as possible when feeding 3600 guests. Nice menu every nite.

Cruise for the benefit of cruising with sun on a balcony and relaxing by davidscales

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

We have seen all the islands so do not take advantage of any additional sight seeing.  Just enjoy relaxing.  Enjoy the afternoon tea.  Disappointed in Princess not holding Texas Hold Em Tournaments.

Commentating for gluten free diet by Kaycat

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

It was a big challenge to find food that was  gluten-free .

Any time with me and my husband were asking for any item to eat that is gluten-free and were told that we needed to give a 24 hour notice . Example would be a piece of bread or getting a pizza etc.   We also asked if they would have gluten-free hamburger buns hot dog buns they said no .   Prior to going on this cruise.  I did ask if the  Cruise line  does  commendations including  gluten free food ,????

Caribbean Cruise by mikecajohn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean

Overall, it as very good.  Improvements that need to be made:  1: Entertainnent.  The second ten days of the cruise was mostly repeat performances from the first ten days.  With the multiple stops we had they should have brought in new entertainment.  First ten days was very enjoyable last ten days were less than desirable.  2) Day before disembarking they need ti have someone in the computer room all day not starting at 1300.  This way it would have alleviated the consternation of many people attempting to get their flight tickets for the following day.  It was not run very well and Princess could/should have avoided this mess by having a person there at 0700.  3) The workout room?gym had a pay for water, however, the gym should have water available for the users of this facility.  Princess needs to realize that water is cheap to provide and they can be proactive in averting a catastrophe in the event of a health problem.   The water fountain was tepid at best and the water pay machine didn't work all the time.

Dining Room Poor by jkpayne

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Our cruise started with excellent service from Robin Henry Harper of Cruises Only and for the most part was a very good experience.  The location of our state room was excellent as was the entertainment and food in all the self service areas of the ship (especially the lido).  Our experience in the main dining room was poor with few choices on the evening menu and very slow service. (1 1/2 to 2 hrs ) Our room steward was outstanding and there always was plenty of room for us to do anything we would like at any time.  The weather was outstanding and we enjoyed all of the ports we visited and felt safe in them all as well.

Southern Carribean done perfectly by Cruiser391

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Royal Princess / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The ship - Royal Princess - was huge, but never felt that way.  It is beautiful, and laid out very intuitively.  The food was fantastic, the service outstanding.  The ports were well chosen, and quite enjoyable.

Our room was always quite clean......
