Review summary

Not the best cruise for families and young people. Seems better suited for an older (60+ crowd). Staff was very nice, and common areas beautiful. Movies Under the Stars was a highlight!

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Terrible. No direction on where to go, or that there was food available on the lido deck. We were just left to wander to our room , after tracking someone down for directions

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
2 stars, only because I’d the speciality restaurants, pizza, Trident grill; which were amazing. Dining room , buffet were a disappointment.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Lots of variety with activities, and cruise director, other staff very engaging

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Onboard musicians were the highlight of the trip, especially the Crystal Duo classical group, and Los Brilliantes, the Mexican Trio

Children's Programs

Did not have children on this trip

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Everyone was exceptional, with the exception of our dining room waiter

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Only drawback was the Princess Theater, which is poorly designed for enjoying drinks during the show, and the seats are too small and crowded

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Excellent size and exceptionally clean and well-maintained. Large, spacious room!

Ship tip

Small pool, no slides, kid zones on deck. No kids activities that I saw advertised. Maybe not the best cruise for kids

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California

1 out of 5
Uncovered parking too expensive for a week

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

2 out of 5
Not much to do if you don’t take an excursion

Mazatlan, Mexico

4 out of 5
Best part about Mazatlán we’re the American volunteers stationed throughout the city to help tourists

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

1 out of 5
Not much to do if you don’t go on an excursion. Nice mall across from port.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Smoothest, easiest part of the entire cruise. I wish we had this much direction/instruction at embarkation

Sorry to hear dining room, hope it is back to good when we go. 165 days until we board for the Sea of Cortez.

Our first cruise 4-27-19 getting excited, we wanted it to be about the ship and sail experience not the ports. We chose Mexican Riviera on Royal Princess because of the many sea days. So far none of the Excursions are anything we would be interested in and that's okay. We live close enough that we are familiar with the culture there. We plan on getting off at the ports and walking around...again for us our first cruise is gonna be more about the ship experience. We will focus on Excursions next time.

We found each port excellent...we always do our own private excursions when in port for next to nothing money, and so very exciting to see each culture and what it's got to offer...my personal view is "it's as good as you make it"
