We planned the European cruise for a year and it was supposed to be our dream vacation. But it was so disappointing. We were horrified that my husband was served a dead moth in his salad the first night and we never ate in the dining room again. We were unable to enjoy formal night. Other cruises we have taken had much more to do on the ship and the music on other ships is lively and fun. Princess quality is at the bottom of the list compared to Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Disney.

Food and Dining

On the first night my husband and I ate in the Allegro dining room. We both ordered Caesar salads. Halfway through eating the salad my husband gags and spits out a dead moth that had been in the salad! So gross! We showed the servers and complained to the Maitre'd and he said "these things happen" and gave us 1 free dinner in a specialty restaurant. Needless to say we did not finish our dinner and we never ate in the dining room again. Ate most meals in the buffet, no formal night for us! We have cruised on Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Disney and the food was much higher quality. This was an awful experience and so disappointing!
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Kind of boring compared to other cruise lines. no sail away parties, not much music on the lido deck. They just ran movies, this was an older crowd and not very lively, hardly saw the cruise director at all

Ship tip
Food was terrible, boring activities on ship, not as much music as we have experienced on every other cruise line, be careful on excursions, we were often treated like cattle waiting in lines for cable cars in some of the ports. The tour guides will not improvise due to traffic or very bad weather and made us stand in the pouring rain for hours on the island of Capri part of our excursion in Naples.
Booked an excursion to Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri. the weather was OK in Pompeii but spent too much time there. Traffic was bad to Sorrento (a town we really wanted to walk around) so the tour guide insisted we go directly to lunch and then directly to the boat to Capri. No time in Sorrento! It started raining and the guide should have cancelled the Capri trip. Instead we took a boat in pouring rain to Capri, we were all soaking wet and they insisted the walking tour go on. Most of us stood in crowded cafes trying to stay out of the rain for 1 1/2 hours until the guide and 3 people finished their walking tour. Then a 1 hour boat ride back to ship all soaking wet! Of course we came down sick!
If you had a year to plan then then should have posted on this site a year before your cruise to find out what the so called "pace" of the ship is reference age, activities, how many people participate etc etc.
You should have reported it to your Dining Room Steward. A dead bug in your food can happen anywhere in the world. You would have been given a little extra special attention every day if you were nice and pleasant. I can't believe you would knock the whole Princess Fleet and say your formal night was ruined. Millions sail on Princess and never have a problem and are continuing repeat customers like myself and my partner. We love everything about Princess and find they will go out of their way to make sure we have an amazing time. Next cruise is a 10 day cruise in November and we can't wait. We don't let negative comments impact us because we find they are mostly unsubstantiated complaints from unhappy people who expect perfection but nothing in life is perfect or guaranteed.
I know what you mean. We tried the royal princess and I swear it was like they rolled the sidewalks up at 9. We went to one of the bars that was going to do an evening of 60's music with do and we sat in there for thirty minutes and no one showed..not even the do and yes we did have the right time and venue. I have to say they do the movies under the stars up great. Put cushions on all lounges with pillow and blanket and have popcorn for you. I didn't care for the main dining room food but we still enjoyed our cruise.
