Review summary

Overall a good cruise. Being with friends made it lovely. Food was good, service was actually the best part about the cruise. The shows were good. Overall the ports were nice as well. Some better than others. In the end, we loved: the service, food, shows, St. Lucia and St. Martin. We didn't love: the stateroom balcony not being completely private, some of the onboard activities being different than what they were supposed to be or thrown together, being stung by sea lice in Barbados with no warning from staff.

Embarkation

The bag hand off wass a bit sketchy because there was a mob of people and no lines but I just headed in and found someone to take my bag pretty quickly. Also, quick note, our bags ended up down the hall from us and it was only because I was wandering in that direction looking for my bags that I found them.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
As vegetarians we felt like there was a good selection. I wish there were more vegan options in the Windjammer, though they did come up with a veggie burger which MSC didn't have so good on them!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The ship is a bit smaller so less to do, but we hit 6 ports in 7 days so it wasn't necessary to have so much on board with only one sea day. We did do a lot of the raffles and activities and won some free art and other things.

Entertainment

The stage shows were wonderful as always on RC. The DJs were fine, and most of the bands were great too.

Service and Staff

All of the staff went above and beyond to make us happy. A++.

Ship Quality

Great layout, the Centrum area was surely copied by other ships like MSC Seascape and it's a great idea. It was the clean, though there was rust showing in several places.

Cabin / Stateroom

It was a nice sized cabin and spacious. Great to have a balcony. It was clean enough, but I did have to clean out the drawers because they weren't all that clean. My only gripe was that the balconied weren't completely enclosed. The beginning and end of the balcony partition was open so you could see your neighbors and they could see you. So we didn't have total privacy.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

One of my favorite places on the planet. Delicious food and friendly people. We visited El Yunque rainforest, and the beach in Luquillo as well as Old San Juan and El Condado. Loved it!

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

It was fine. We did a self-led tour and saw some interesting things. Met some locals and ate Jhonny Cakes which you MUST try! delicious!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

STX is beautiful, but for being the shopping capital of the Caribbean there was nothing to buy except jewelry. A huge disappointment when looking for fashion, souvenirs, etc. Also, the "taxi" from the port is $6 per person. But if you walk 5 minutes outside the port you can catch a local bus for $1 per person (I found that out through chatting with a local on our way back and saved us $20).

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Very nice port, lots of shopping. We did an excursion toSt Martin, the French side. People there are very friendly, and the pastries on that side are amazing! Also they had good shopping, and a beautiful beach. A highlight of our trip!

Castries, St. Lucia

We LOVED St Lucia. Hands down our favorite port. We had a driver take us sround. We went to several look out points, to Soufiere, and took a boat to Sugar Beach, and tasted some local cuisine. It's one of the most beautiful places I've been.

Bridgetown, Barbados

Barbados is beautiful. The port is quite far from the town. We did a beach day at Harbour Lights. Front row beach chairs and umbrella. The water was perfect and everything was great UNTIL we were attacked by sea lice. We asked what was stinging us and the men helping us said there was nothing but seaweed, and that we just had to rinse off and it should be fine. By that evening I had giant red welts all over my leg. I wish they'd have been more forthcoming because I wouldn't have gone in the water had I known.
