Rhapsody of the Seas

7 Night Western Caribbean (Tampa Roundtrip)

Sail date: December 14, 2019

Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas

Cabin number: 2030

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

We had chilly and windy weather with high seas for a lot of the trip. Not the Rhapsody's fault. Captain did an amazing job docking the ship in ports.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Solarium pool never opened the retractable roof. Very steamy inside. Water removed from pool on last day due to high seas. Bingo was expensive. Not enough activities in inclement weather. Lion King movie could not be watched due to very cold and windy weather. Viking lounge should have an audio feed so you could watch movie from there.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Shows were better than average. Performers were excellent.

Children's Programs

No children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Dining room servers and assistants were excellent. Windjammer staff great oo. Friendly, accommodating and happy. Servers or maitre d' even valet parked my scooter and brought it back to my table after dinner.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Loved the smaller size of the ship. No waiting for elevators, especially with a scooter. No problem finding a seat in theaters and lounges. Soft ice cream machines not working well. Ice cream came out runny. Only one of the two operational. They decorated the ship nicely for Christmas and played Christmas music throughout the cruise.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Oceanview, second deck. Well located near elevator banks. Plenty of drawer and closet space. Shower was smaller than I am accustomed to and only had a shower curtain. Bathroom seemed to be recently updated.

Ship tip

If you like smaller ships, without crowds, this ship is for you.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

5 out of 5
No excursion. Parking was very conveniently located across from Terminal 6, with the availability of valet parking. We parked in a private lot for way less money across the street and a few blocks down, Shuttles readily available.

Cozumel, Mexico Did not visit port

Been there on numerous occasions. Didn't want to shop there and did not go on excursions.

Belize City, Belize Did not visit port

Ship tendered to port. Waiting ticket system to board tenders. A hassell with a scooter. Also have been there numerous times and no excursions booked.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

1 out of 5
Port in process of renovations. Construction in progress, limited vendors in the marketplace and pushy salespeople.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Great port. They developed the marketplace considerably since my last visit. Plenty of shops, dolphin pool, flamingo pool, rope bridge over dolphin pool. Wifi available in the port.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Numbers assigned to disembarkation, assigned location for waiting to disembark, luggage was ready and easy to find, porters readily available to assist and they bypassed other travelers on line to get you to the customs desk. Vans for shuttle right outside of terminal exit. Best disembarkation experience yet.

Any idea of the name and cost of the parking a few blocks away? We are going in mid March. Thank you. 😊
