Review summary

Good cruise. Our biggest problem with RCL is pricing and communication. Yes, cruise price was very affordable, but everything else is extremely over priced. RCL also has issues with communication. Bridge announcements can’t be heard in cabin, we emailed RCL with two boarding questions three days before the cruise and received an (unacceptable) answer to one of the questions three days into the cruise! That’s utterly unacceptable.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was great, but Royal’s drink prices are ridiculous. We don’t drink much, typically, so no point in buying package. An occasional glass of wine is now approaching the price of a bottle!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We spent most sea days at the pool, evenings (for movies, too). Wish they would stop piping in music everywhere though. Pool decks don’t need added noise, unless it’s a periodic live band.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Some shows are tired but some good headliners and energetic cast members

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Superb staff

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was very clean, but needs some sprucing up. Our bathroom mirror needs replacing, etc

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Roomy & and comfy. Needs a retrofit. Beds okay after I requested that they flip mattress. Two US outlets (plus 1 in bathroom) two European, which was handy as we have European USB plug/nightlights! For some reason no fridge or ice bucket (which we didn’t need anyway.) Really good water pressure in the shower.

Ship tip

Get to entertainment venues early. They fill up fast.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

We were here for 4 days prior. Allow at least a week. We love Barcelona and will be back

Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Did beach transfer to Playa del Carmen. Town is very affordable and great place to find a cafe opposite the beach and people watch

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

Took a private tour of this beautiful island

Santa Cruz De La Palma, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Our favorite Canary port so far. Easily access to town from port with a great visitor’s center in park opposite the port.

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
This was a reroute from the original itinerary. Many people didn’t even leave the ship. We did a little shopping and were back on the ship by lunch. We really wanted to go to Coco Cay and were very disappointed that they changed the itinerary.

Tampa, Florida Did not visit port

Ended in Port Canaveral due to weather

Disembarkation

RCL handled change of port well, offering free transfers

Announcements are played in the corridors only so it won’t disturb your peace. I went on Rhapsody OTS as well. They usually make announcements in the corridors only across the cruising industry. Also, RCL is also a very large company and might take time to respond to questions. That is why it is recommended that you call them, instead. Have a ry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! 🎄🎄🎄
