Review summary

Overall great cruise, however there are some improvements that can definitely be made.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Embarkation was smooth, however the person that we dealt with at the counter did not know how to answer most of our questions that we had. Their knowledge of the cruise and what we had already paid for was very limited.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining rooms - beautiful - however the food was not nearly as good as previous Princess cruises that I've been on. The menus were always very Caribbean inspired. I've never been on a cruise that doesn't have a "steak" option for dinner every night if you don't want anything else on the menu. The closest thing was a burger. One night almost the entire appetizer menu was Vegan. Specialty Restaurants - Crown Grill Steakhouse was fantastic! Nothing bad to say. Waiters and food were both amazing! Italian restaurant was not nearly as impressive. The non-pasta dishes were not very Italian inspired and were a little off. I was expecting traditional italian dishes like chicken parmesan or a non-fried veal dish. Buffets - Not impressive. Same food every day.

Vines Wine Bar

5 out of 5

Amazing! Loved the entire staff that worked at the Wine Bar. they were fantastic, very attentive and very friendly. I did not see this anywhere else on the ship. My mom doesn't drink, so when we went down to the Vines bar nightly, the bartender would bring her hot chocolate.

Sea View Bar

1 out of 5

I've never met more rude bartenders than the ones who worked at the pool bars. They were rude to almost every customer that I saw them speak to.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Enjoyed the Retreat pool to relax at, however the Bartenders back there were horrible. They seemed very unhappy to be at work and even more unhappy to have to serve us.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Comedian was great, did not make it to the other shows.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Other than the Vines bar and our waitress Mihaila in the Allegro dining room, the service and staff was very disappointing. Our assistant waiter smelled horribly of cigarette smoke every time he served us. Our room steward had to be told what to do every single day. We had to leave him notes to take dirty glasses/plates etc. We had to remind him to give us toilet paper and tissues because we ran out. We also found clothing from the previous cruise in our room, which gave me the impression that it wasn't cleaned well before we got on the ship.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Loved the ship design and cleanliness. Beautiful ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Room was basic. There was an extra chair in the room that was just always in the way and not necessary. We found clothing from the previous cruise in the room, making me think that the cabin wasn't cleaned properly. The bathroom always smelled like urine.

Ship tip

Spend time at the Vines Bar! Tip the bartenders that you like an extra dollar here and there and they will be much more pleasant to work with. If you take a NYE cruise, go immediately up to the Sanctuary to reserve a table, they sell out quickly.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5
Not a port, just a place to embark and dismembark.

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
Beautiful and Peaceful. Only complaint is that your Coca Cola card does not work on the island. My mom does not drink and was unable to order a coke - but was able to get a rum and coke which didn't make any sense.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5
Still has some hurricane damage but the island was beautiful and people were nice. A lot of the stores weren't quite ready for tourists like they have been in the past.

Fort-De-France, Martinique

1 out of 5
The ship decided to port here on New Years Day. EVERY single store/restaurant was closed. There was nothing to see or look at and there was no beach that was easily accessible (able to walk to) by the port. We got off for 10 minutes and went back on the ship. Looked like it would have been a great island if stores had been open.

St. George's, Grenada

3 out of 5
Beautiful island however we were there form 7am--1:30pm. It's kind of impossible to enjoy the island unless you want to get off the boat at the crack of dawn. We took a water taxi over to Grand Anse Beach. Beautiful beach but the people who worked there weren't the friendliest.

Bonaire, Netherlands Special Municipality

3 out of 5
Bonaire is beautiful, nice downtown area that's walking distance from the ship. Did an excursion to Bonaire Beach club and was very unimpressed. There was no beach there that you could walk into the water and cool off, it was very rocky and full of coral that they encouraged you not to walk on. Also, there were no chairs reserved for us like promised in the excursion description.

Willemstad, Curacao

3 out of 5
Beautiful island, friendly people. We went on a cave tour/walking tour that was very unimpressive. The group was way too big for the tour and the guides were very boring. We ended up leaving the walking tour part and shopped by ourselves.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy and quick.

I'm glad that overall it was great. I'm surprised your cabin steward had to be told to do anything, every steward we have had have been absolutely fantastic in their own way, even the stewards we have passed in the corridors have always been polite and acknowledged us. The smell of urine btw is the shower curtain, just ask for it to be changed next time. Grumpy bartenders I've never met either, I just assume they're not having a great day and we don't take it personally. Have a good day.
