I truly believe this ship is more focused upon the senior cruiser (60+). We often found the other passengers to be quite intolerant of our children, despite them being very well behaved. Admittedly, we took our kids out of school for this trip, so the numbers of families onboard were probably limited. Perhaps the destination (NZ) was also more appealing to the elderly?
We had a great time mostly due to the wonderful staff. I would book Radiance again it it were just my husband and I, but I wouldn't take the kids.

Lovely ship. Just go. Book your My dining Time and try to sit at the same table. That way you get to be served by the same staff and they get to be familiar with you drink needs and you get to be more personable.

Look at the layout of the ship and do not book a cabin directly above the lounges or casino. Ours was above one of the clubs that played loud music long after we would have liked to have been asleep. Walls very thin..can hear doors banging, drawers opening, people walking the halls.

I would highly recommend the second deck, near and beyond the second set of cabins beyond the elevator bank. The cabins were quiet, and on the outer side (we had a porthole), there was a little bit of the ocean sound. Also, the porthole gives you great light which I really miss in inside cabins. And it also helps to experience the long days of Alaska. Finally, I liked the second deck in particular because it made for an easy off-board and onboard on excursion days. No lines for the elevator!

Book your cruise the last week in June to first week in August. Otherwise miserable weather and everything else partially opened. Miss a lot until at least mid June.

Cabin was last one in passageway and next to two crew doors that were constantly being slammed. And what ever they were doing behind one of the doors was very noisy at night

An inside cabin, even with an 11 year old, worked out just fine, so dont be afraid you will be miserable if you choose to save money and go that route.
