Radiance of the Seas

7 Night Alaska Hubbard Glacier Northbound (Vancouver To Seward)

Sail date: June 30, 2017

Ship: Radiance of the Seas

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The cruise was really very good, but only because Alaska is such an amazing destination. The Radiance of the Seas is a smaller, older ship with few features anything like we were used to having. I think if we were to do Alaska again, we would go on Princess or Celebrity.

Embarkation

Leaving from Canada Place in Vancouver was a snap. Very simple process and quick walk from downtown hotels.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was good, but not great. We did eat a Giovanni's table one night for dinner which was very good.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Walked around a lot. Saw the shows, watched to activities in the Centrum. Too cold to swim.

Entertainment

Mediocre at best. Again, good but not great.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Small and older. Way behind the standards set by the bigger and newer ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Well kept and clean. Nice balcony view of the amazing scenery.

Ship tip

Be prepared to be underwhelmed.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

5 out of 5
Great city and easy access to the port. Wish we had planned a couple of days on the front of the cruise to explore.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Cheeesy - saw the lumberjack show and dozens of stores full of things made in China.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

5 out of 5
Very genuine. About as close as you can get to visiting native Alaska.

Juneau, Alaska

Nice clean town. Went whale watching in the rain - it was amazing.

Skagway, Alaska

I hear they are putting an Anthem class on the Alaska route in a few years. That will be fun.
