Review summary

Cruising Alaska is a beautiful trip, and this is a great itinerary. However, pick a newer ship with more amenities.

Embarkation

Awful. Lines, lines and more lines. Apparently a ship was delayed and impacted what the port could handle.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The buffet meals were to be avoided. Only decent food were French fries and bread. I’m not picky - but the windjammer was really disappointing. Main dining room meals were a tad better - but the quality of much of the meat was questionable. Desserts were often dry and tasteless. Two stars only because Chop Grille was exceptionally delicious, otherwise I would have given 1 star.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We enjoyed the fitness center. Didn’t use the pools or rock climbing. We enjoyed the trivia games and there were some decent movies. But why show Father of the Bride? It’s like 20 yrs. Old and the movie was of poor film quality. Unfortunately, many of the games and activities occurred simultaneously with ports and entertainment so we didn’t get to do as much as we wanted.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment was generally very good. The musicians were excellent. We loved Aaron Pollack in the Quill and Compass and went to watch him 4 times.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had wonderful service from our room stewards and our main dining room servers. They were lovely and attentive.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was very clean. But it is also very old so while clean there were things that were worn/worn away. The design of all the interior areas is dated and desperately needs updating. It’s dark and overstated.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our room was very clean thanks to our stateroom attendant. But there were only 2 outlets so no room for our chargers. My husband uses a CPAP and there is no place next to the bed for one. It’s so common today I couldn’t believe there was nothing. Our attendant found an extension cord and neatly taped it down but we were always concerned about tripping. Our shower drain had sunk into the floor, leaving sharp edges and we had to avoid when showering. Not what we expected either when we didn’t have a refrigerator and our stateroom phone mostly didn’t work.

Ship tip

Avoid Radiance of the Seas - hoping RC gets a new ship for this route.

Just to sell excursions. I would have preferred another day in the three other cities where I would have done an excursion.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
We carried our own luggage so we made it off fast. But the logistics of moving people was done awkwardly so it could have been better.
