Cruise was average. We've definitely had better experiences, but don't regret going. This is a slower-paced ship that still seems to have the previous Alaska Cruise mindset.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Embarkation at New Orleans port is somewhat chaotic for Royal. Lots of circling buildings to drop off luggage then more circling to get to the parking lot, then a walk to the boarding area. Unfortunately, nobody was directing the walk to the boarding area part so there was a lot of wasted effort there.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
It's an older ship. Lots of windows throughout which was nice, but everything moved at a really slow pace - meals took forever, Giovani's was super slow (and food came out cold after the way too long wait). Bingo was even slow. The guy calling the numbers felt like he should tell a long-winded story between each number drawn.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
It's an older, smaller ship so knew the activities would be toned down, but the who vibe of the ship made us feel like it catered to snowbirds. It was okay, but nothing spectacular.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Gave this area four stars as the shows redeemed what would have been a three-star rating. The production team did a good job. Piano Man musical was entertaining. Pool side activities were average.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service was very good, and the staff was very helpful. No issues.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
No issues with cleanliness for the most part. Staff did a good job keeping common areas cleaned. Will say the Windjammer was a little messy. It wasn't uncommon to find spilled food near a food station, but staff did a decent job cleaning it up.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Junior suite with the space you expect from this type of cabin. Only downside was our balcony had an overhang above us that blocked the sun from hitting the balcony. Other than that, good room conveniently located to major activities. Outside noise level was never an issue.
Went on our on to Paradise Beach. Definitely recommend this for a reasonably priced getaway with good food, drinks, and service, as well as a really nice layout. Price was $60 per person.
